it should take 4-5 years if they build through the draft. 4 to sneak in, 5 to be a legit play-off team

If they can somewhow swing a trade like a Spezza/Hemsky or Thorton/Marleau it could be 3 to get to the play-offs but the downside would be that they would fissel again once those two types of players fade (3-4 years)

It's not a good idea for the long term future of the franchise to get two or three guys like that just to get in the play-offs, but they could get there quicker if they did.
