You guys have all summer to speculate and argue about trades and acquisitions you have absolutely no control over...don't try to fit all the nonsense into one day.

How can you say he put up his peak season when he pretty much has been getting slightly better year after year? Unless someone overpays for him you would be selling low on him is all I'm trying to say.
- FlyersSteve118

I said I'm gambling that this is his peak season.

The only top defenseman I could see becoming available is Subban.

Montreal has been up an down with him. It's becoming apparent that he wants a massive deal and the Habs may not feel he's worthy of it.

It would take a Pronger like package to bring him here. I'm thinking Couts, Morin and 2 firsts for him.

I know some people aren't big fans of his, but I think he's a very good player. His maturity has gotten better, but still needs improvement.

He's the only #1 dman I can see being available without massively overpaying.

- PhillySportsGuy

I'd love Subban on the team. I'd sic Pronger on his butt pretty much constantly though to keep the attitude in check, and then I'd wine and dine the crap outta him... He deserves to be treated better than how Montreal has treated him. I think of him as something like a beaten dog. I think some re-habilitation will go a long way towards making him more agreeable in the locker room. I don't think anyone is questioning that he deserves a pretty serious pay increase.

cap hit is 4.5. Your right they can and Tomahawk broke it down the other day. I believe its something like 3.5 mil of dead money on the cap in 15-16 and 16-17 if they bought him out this summer.

They will probably have to do it. I mean if that guy wasnt injured, you have to do it

- Just5

Injured or not, if that's the option I take it. Just never made sense as a signing to me. Even though he kept us from completely dying in October.

I want to take a shot at Grundbranson in FL or Subban with a OS. Maybe look for a deal wit FL for kulikov or St. Louise for Shattenkirk. Might have to use B.Schenn for Shattenkirk. I want a better 4th line. I like Hall but i want a line like dallas has. Speed, gritty and can score. I want to let Kimmo walk and get G a better wing to upgrade over Hartnell. Just things i would like
- J35Bacher

If it was B Schenn and not much more for Shattenkirk (B grade prospect or 2nd rounder), then yes a thousand times. Gubrandson seems to have had trouble adjusting to the NHL after his high pick. Montreal would probably grudgingly match an OS, a trade is more likely. If Kulikov wants to stay in the NHL (which he probably does), then I'd go after him, but wouldn't sell the farm.

Why trade those 2 and 2 first rounders? 2 known commodities over 2 unkowns? Id rather just offer sheet him and give up the 4 first round picks.

I've come around on him the past year. Still, I'd have a hard time moving Coots for anyone other than about 6 players, and Subban isn't one.
BTW, those players are:

Shea Weber
Ryan Suter
Drew Doughty
Duncan Kieth
Alex Pietrangelo
Erik Karlsson

If we trade Coburn we leave a huge hole in our D... I seriously hope they don't.
- FlyersGrace

I don't think Coburn played that well, he made several horrible passes.

I read an article (I would post it if I remembered where I saw) about whether they should give him the massive deal he has coming. I believe management is still torn on whether he's going to be worth the biggest deal a defenseman has ever gotten.

Montreal would likely match unless the offer was ridiculous

And a team in the Flyers cap position can't afford to pay ridiculous!

He did. And he was also clearly the team's best defenseman (maybe Streit was better, actually). Still, it's easy to remember the bad plays, but the guy had a very strong season and series.

Now, AMac, on the other hand...

A little? Unless you offer $10M a year, Montreal probably matches. Much safer to acquire him in a trade.

Also, you're assuming he signs the OS. Just because you submit one, it doesn't mean he signs it.

Does anyone think maybe Hextall will be taking over gm dutes with Holmgren moving to a President position? I just have a weird feeling he came back to philly knowing that here was a plan in place.

Coburn was playing against the best the other team had, not just in the play-offs but the entire season. He was bound to have good and bad nights. That said I felt he was more consistently good than bad, even with his tough opposition, and he was covering timmonen's lack of speed as well. His passes aren't spectacular but they aren't horrendous either. Picking out a few bad ones and forgetting all the amazing defensive plays he's done would be unfair to the player.
Besides I spit my beer out when he went over the top of the hobbit on a break away. It looked like he ate Zuccarello. Penalty be damned that was frigging awesome.

Coburn had a Carle like series. He was good overall, but had some really bad gaffs that stick out. I thought he had a really rough night last night. He seemed to play much better at home.

MacDonald had a really rough night as well.

It was a shame they lost Grossmann. He was playing really well when he got hurt.

It was a good season, ending with a lot more promise than it began with.

See you next season, Kimmo?

Giroux needs help. He also needed to play better vs the Rangers. I doubt he met his own standards.

Mason is the real deal. He deserved better. Everybody else got what they earned.

B Schenn started to bring it. Couts needs to take his game to the next level as he wasn't very good on either side of the puck. Read was pretty meh.

On and on.

VL should be pulling on another jersey next season.

When did schenn start to bring it?

But Couturier and Morin are established first round picks. The 2 future ones are unknown and probably not as highly touted as these two guys. But if the idea is to overpay to make sure that the deal goes through I understand.

Just saying that a known player is way more valuable than a future pick.

I think Coburn would look a lot better with a more skilled defenseman. Timonen isn't a top pairing guy anymore. If Coburn had a guy like Niskanen and could focus on just being good defensively, I think he'd be a very good player.

His pass to Gill was a bad one, but 95% of NHL defenseman kick that puck up to their skates and move the puck before the opposition can steal it.
