No because waiting for the player to slide gets Lundqvist set in net. The flyers needed to one time the puck with quick passing and get off HARD shots so if the player managed to get there in time it hurt like hell. The problem was hesitation due to a few shots getting blocked. They were scared to take a one time blast. - FlyersSteve118
Well, Lundqvist does have those dreamy eyes and model good looks. |

It is frustrating to wwatch a pro team lose to such a midget league system - JoeRussomanno
they just didn't adjust. and the rangers had no reason to do anything other than what they were doing. block shots and capitalize on their chances.
3 of the 4 losses, they scored 1 goal. when the pp fails, so does the team, generally speaking. again, this lack of scoring had virtually nothing to do with csp. he did his job by not allowing any bad goals. emery and mason in particular were excellent overall, but a bad first goal in game 3, and game 5 by each goalie cost the team. when you rely so much on your pp, and it puts a lot of pressure on the goalies to make no mistakes. it's not fair, but that's the situation. i don't blame the goaltending in any way, shape or form for the 7 game series loss. |

BUT that doesn't mean goaltending can't steal you a series. It was a bad match up from the start and we kind of needed to get our goalies to steal a couple games. Who knows what could have happened if Mason started the first 3 games. Its all the Penguins fault. Dirty bastards. |

yes, it gives him time, but hey, you know they might be able to score on said shot, just like the wild did. varlamov was set and waiting. he still got beat. the other option is to have forwards in front screening and deflecting pucks and hunting rebounds. waiting for a player to slide and take himself out of position is not an automatic save.
i do agree that the flyers need to move the puck quicker, which includes shooting it. they waited too long and then shot at the wrong time. |

emery and mason did steal games. they still lost. mason was incredible in 3 of the 4 games he played, and he only won 2 of them. i put that on the impotent team in front of him. |

The puck just seemed to bounce for the rangers in every possible way this series, which took away the confidence of our players. But, that's hockey. If only we squeaked through, it would have been nice. |

Yeah I know, I said steal a series though. I get we didn't deserve it. But whatever, next season hopefully we can put it all together. Just need to get that dman at all costs. |

or, wait for the player to slide out of the way, like on the wild's game tying goal late late in regulation, instead of waiting to shoot until the playe is directly in your lane. or pivot/angle away from the player if he's down and not sliding. either way, they did a terrible job of getting pucks through. just too slow moving the puck/making decisions. - hammarby31
I don't recall the Rangers sliding to block shots very much. To me, it seemed that they would either kneel down or sort of stand around and let it hit the shin. |

True.
They need to be moving when they receive a pass (especially on powerplays) rather than trying to shoot/pass from a stationary position. |

three plays from last night stick out as nice illustrations of this team and the season:
1. the 4 on 2 offside play where it looked like they were peewees
2. Kimmo getting beat on the last play of the game to negate icing
3. with the puck on his stick in the shooting position he so loves, Giroux puts the puck into the (frank)ing side netting where it gets stuck, leading to the face off outside the zone. going 2 ft wide would have been better. |

Coburn was playing against the best the other team had, not just in the play-offs but the entire season. He was bound to have good and bad nights. That said I felt he was more consistently good than bad, even with his tough opposition, and he was covering timmonen's lack of speed as well. His passes aren't spectacular but they aren't horrendous either. Picking out a few bad ones and forgetting all the amazing defensive plays he's done would be unfair to the player.
Besides I spit my beer out when he went over the top of the hobbit on a break away. It looked like he ate Zuccarello. Penalty be damned that was frigging awesome. - FlyersGrace
His pass into the feet of his teammates are killing me but that hobbit play was awesome. |
