Coaching the Phantoms is a tougher assignment than what the other guy gets on a nightly basis

Is it really a " given" that Bobby Ryan signs with Flyers next July? If that is the case
what kind of forward $$$$ would they look for this off season? Or do they just spend the major bucks on D.

One trade that I might like to see is Coburn and B Schenn for Cody Ceci. I have watched Ceci in a couple of games with the Sens, and he seems like a good puck mover, a skater, and has great hockey sense. He is young, and will learn to use his size over time. The HNews has a good review of him, but I wonder if the Sens would even consider that trade.
I would also consider trading for the "other" McGinn. He has some grit, and seems to know to go to the front of the net. I realize that he is not a top line guy, but he adds some size, some grit, and can actually score a few goals.
Just thinking out loud

As much as I'd love to see him in O&B, I have a feeling he'll be a career Hab.

Most likely, or at least well into his next contract

Man...I'm not angry or frustrated at the team and the sting wore off for the most part....

But guys. This sucks.

I'm jealous. I'm over the fact that we're not going to be advancing... I'm almost over the fact that there's no more hockey for me to watch (I can't watch non-Flyers games... just can't get interested if I have no stake). I just can't get over the fact that they didn't make the appropriate effort. I can't shake the feeling that it's going to be the status quo for next season, since we made the playoffs despite the awful start. I want to be optimistic, but I just don't see it.

This team "was what it was" and I'm not mad either. I do confess that the 7 game series left me wanting for more Flyer hockey.

I have no idea what Paul Holmgren has in mind with this team, though. What are they going to do with Vinny Lecavalier? Is Kimmo coming back?

It does suck. But the way they played all season I didn't expect them to go far in the playoffs. Hell, I didn't even think they had a chance the way they were playing at the start of the season. It seemed they would take one step forward and have a great game only to fall back two steps and play like poop. There's definitely holes that they need to fill and I hope they address it in the offseason. Next season I expect them to make a good push deep into the playoffs.

The Vinny is particularly interesting.

I hear the refrain- the inconsistency and status quo and things about effort- I really see good things from this team. Don't forget- this is a really young team for the most part.

And we finally have a goaltender, guys

No. Not even close to a given. I bet he re-ups in Ottawa.

to clarify, I'm just saying that they seem to wait until late in the game to really get it going as opposed to coming out, taking a lead and defending it. Every team has a personality and this seems to be their character flaw.
- edmac812

yes, almost like they wear the "we never give up when our backs are to the wall" motto like a badge of honor; when in reality it seems to be "we don't play well unless our back is against the wall" which is a totally different (and dysfunctional) thing

If Ryan played for the Pens, how many times would Pierre mention that fact during Flyer Pens games?

Which I think people forget. Young teams have to go through a number of growing pains to get themselves in a position to win a Cup. You've in Pittsburgh, Chicago, LA, and Boston. The Flyers are on the right path, they just shouldn't do anything too drastic.

Those teams were young, but had a stud dman or a dman who was developing into a stud.

The Flyers defense may look like this

Grossmann-Streit
Gus/FA/Alt-Schenn

I really hope Ghost is the real deal. i know everyone wants him to play in the AHL a season but if he can play then he can provide something this teams defense has really never had.

I was pretty happy with Mason before this playoff and I'm glad the national hockey types got to see the Mason the folks that have followed this team all year have seen.

I don't want him on the Flyers just for this reason.

He'd also drop this exact phrase at least once a game: "unique family history"

EDIT: All joking aside, that whole story with Bobby and his dad is wild

I'm one of those "keep Ghost in the AHL for a bit" types.

Holmgren needs to get creative, because his blue line is a hodge podge mess.
