If you trade Coburn as part of a package, you're just fixing one hole and creating another. Unless you're somehow vastly overpaying and landing an elite top defenseman, you're basically trading your best defenseman and another asset for a moderate upgrade at Coburn's spot. - jmatchett383
IMO, I don't believe Coburn is vastly superior to any of the d-men who are currently signed. His cap hit and attributes probably give him the highest trade value.
Also, I don't believe there are any elite top d-men available. However, if the Flyers are trying to change the mix of the d core by adding more skating and puck moving, I do believe those guys would be available. Yes, a trade would involve more then Coburn.

Is he a legit option to play for the big club? - Marc D
I think it's up in the air with all of the young guys. We have no idea what they're going to be by next season. |

trading Coburn is a real scary thought to me
whoever comes back would have to replace a lot of tough minutes
the idea of trading him for a forward or a draft pick does not make sense at all - Marc D
Wait...I mean, he's not Shea Weber, so he should be traded immediately for a competent defenseman.
People on here act like we have the worst defense in the NHL. It's not a top-10, but it's not terrible. We're not going to have Boston's defense based one on or even two moves. However, Coburn is one of the right pieces going forward, and is part of the solution. Just because he's not a star player does not mean that he should be cast aside.[/img] |

I think you're undervaluing Coburn. He had a few rough games in the playoffs, but was very solid throughout the season despite facing the toughest match ups. Coburn and Timonen were the heavy lifters for much of the season. I don't think Streit or Amac can fill that defensive void.
I pray to Raptor Jesus that Schenn will reach that level one day. |

I don't have an issue with them on our D (though I was flat out against the Streit signing and not exactly enamored with Mac's contract), just that they'll soon be the highest paid.
That they're the best, as you believe, is even more disconcerting. - 77rams
I'd agree that them being our highest paid isn't exactly the best situation, but it is what it is. Aside from Coburn when his game is on, MacD and Streit ARE our best overall D. Puck-moving, skating, defensive play, and offense taking into consideration in an all-around assessment, and I can't see how anyone would disagree?
Now with that said, I'm not advocating this is a comforting feeling, just that's the reality of the D right now. But, I do like having Streit and MacD, as opposed to guys like Grossmann (whom I like a lot), but is entirely one-dimensional. |

Alright, I see the looney bin has been unleashed for the evening and we're now contemplating shipping our best all-around defenseman out as part of a package to bring in another defenseman who's about the same. Have a good one folks. |

With the revalation that Tallon will be shopping the 1st overall pick, how realistic is it do you think Holmgren/Hextall goes out and tries to snag it to draft Ekblad?
If so, what do we offer? |

0.0 % chance. Flyers will remain at #17 and draft a player 3-4 years away from contributing. |

The probability is very low, but the Flyers have a lot of young, valuable assets that the Panthers, I'm sure, would be interested in.
It just likely doesn't make sense to gut the forward core to draft an 18-year-old defenseman -- as promising as Ekblad is. |

I was just being facetious. I'm of the opinion that because the Flyers are hosting the draft, they will want to create some buzz and will do something interesting at the draft. We'll see. |

First, I always respect Raptor Jesus' opinion.
I don't think Coburn is off limits to a trade. He certainly plays well as a tandem with Kimmo. However, when Kimmo played with Gus and Schenn two years ago, I thought they looked their best also. I think some of Coburn's success can be attributed to be paired with Kimmo, not the other way around.
I'm not suggesting trading Coburn cheap. However, if I can get back a skater and better puck mover d-man in a trading involving Coburn +, yes I am interested. |

Obviously the pricetag would be high, but if it's something the Flyers could work, I would do it. Easier said than done, but as mentioned in the posts above in response to this, we do have the assets Florida would probably want back in return. |
