I was just being facetious. I'm of the opinion that because the Flyers are hosting the draft, they will want to create some buzz and will do something interesting at the draft. We'll see.
- PLindbergh31

I'd agree with that line of thinking. Not to say Holmer will go nuts, or actively look to create some buzz, but I can easily envision him trading for the first overall pick, or making some kind of move.

Either way, for fun:

Read, Schenn's, Grossmann if we can retain salary, 1st this year, and 1st next year?

lol, yes I know I'm dreaming....

You just had to go there didn't you? Especially since John Carlson was on the board.

First, I always respect Raptor Jesus' opinion.

I don't think Coburn is off limits to a trade. He certainly plays well as a tandem with Kimmo. However, when Kimmo played with Gus and Schenn two years ago, I thought they looked their best also. I think some of Coburn's success can be attributed to be paired with Kimmo, not the other way around.

I'm not suggesting trading Coburn cheap. However, if I can get back a skater and better puck mover d-man in a trading involving Coburn +, yes I am interested.

- ravishingone

Any player is available via trade if the trade makes sense. To me, Coburn is incredibly valuable to this team. Yes, he needs to be paired with a competent defense partner. Most defensive defenseman need a puck mover just like most offensive defenseman need a reliable, defensive partner.

If the Flyers want to trade Coburn they better get a defenseman who plays defense as well as him or this team will be in trouble.

There is NO ONE on this roster that can log his minutes and do a better job. He faces the toughest competition every game and holds his own. No matter which stats you choose to look at, he had a very strong year overall.

Obviously the pricetag would be high, but if it's something the Flyers could work, I would do it. Easier said than done, but as mentioned in the posts above in response to this, we do have the assets Florida would probably want back in return.
- Flyers_V88

I don't see enough young assets that they would be particularly interested in to move off the #1 pick.

Eh, I wouldn't trade Matt Read.

He's been the Flyers best goal scorer (per 60 minutes) over the past three years.

Well, we have them, just won't move them, and I get that.

Florida would easily ask for Couturier, Read, [insert player name here], and our 1st this year probably.

Agreed fully. I literally was just trying to find a way to not trade Laughton or Couts, and give them Read as a casualty lol. Either way, a trade for the first won't come cheap and it'll sting.

I can't argue your points. However, it is May and a good possibility a new GM could be in place shortly. I actually look forward to having a new person in charge to help revamp the top 6.

"We don't want to lose a prospect who probably tops out as a 3C, so we'll trade you our best goal scorer instead."

Got it.

My point was that I personally feel Couts' contributions to the team will be of more value than Reads, overall. Sure, Read projects to score more goals than Couts, and is very sound defensively in his own right. However, much like good D, finding an offensively competent shutdown center who can play against the opposition's top lines is tough to find. Couts is on the verge of Selke consideration.

Laughton, for those who haven't watched him play in person (I live literally 10 minutes from Oshawa where he plays in the OHL), he is literally a better, smoother, Mike Richards. A guy who isn't going to be a number 1 center, but fits the 2nd spot perfectly. He's gritty, can score, and hustles probably more than half our team.

Bottom line, I feel Read is replaceable through drafting/trading/signing.

Looks like Snider says Hextall is the GM whenever Homer wants to step aside. Not sure what title Homer will have next season.

Oh, Laughton hustles more? Okay. That's what this team needs.

(Couturier is on my untouchable list.)

You're wasting your breath, man. Some people just don't want to see it.

I could be wrong. Maybe there's someone out there who is attainable who can do all the things that Coburn does for this team who is actually available.

But for the life of me, and I'm totally serious: I don't know who the (frank) that player is. No clue. Because detractors can say ship out Coburn, but I haven't heard anyone explain who, exactly, is playing those 22 minutes a night.

Beat writers on twitter. Ek is saying it's official, but that's ek.

Everyone seems to be saying if Homer steps aside, Hextall is GM, and Homer will remain a part of the decision making process. Fine by me, for his faults as a GM, he's a hell of a scout.

This doesn't really surprise anyone, does it? That was the assumption when he was brought in.

Snider also said they're in the process of looking over everyone's job titles. Now that is an interesting comment.

Yeah, hard to believe Hextall would go from one team to another in the same role unless he knew he'd be taking over soon. Snider confirmed that today, so now it's just a matter of when.

All these thoughts on trades/ holes to fill and such. The one thing I think is almost certain is homer WILL make a splash at the draft. It's in Philly and it screams of the flyers to make the headlines when the city of Philly is in the spotlight. I think for sure he pulls a pronger type deal ( in terms of magnitude not old player)

Noel, Carter-Williams, Wiggens, McDermitt + would be a great core to start a franchise with.

It wouldn't shock me if Hexy was at the helm for the draft. A lot will depend on whether Homer is ready to hand it over.
