Still doubtful. Are plans on replacing Coburn? Also you have Vanek making like 7 million right?

Just crunched the numbers with Capgeek. Although that offense would be dominant it would be at the expense of the defense which would have 2 holes in it with about 5 million left (not counting a back up goalie too and depth forwards/dmen). Not possible.

Edit: It is possible if you fill it with prospects like you said but our team's defense, which is probably our greatest need, is much worse

Watching another Gostisbehre type in Jared Spurgeon. Made his NHL debut on his 21st birthday and lived to tell about it. Id say Ghost has more in his toolbox.

Sure thats a great idea. Lets just go for this defense:

AMac Streit
Ghost L Schenn
Morin Grossmann

Wow you've actually done it. You created a defense worse that Edmonton Oilers. Anyway you pair it you will have guys getting exposed. So lets go through the faults.

-We learned this series something the Islanders learned this season that you cannot give AMac first pair minutes and expect him to handle them effectively. He just cannot do it
-Despite a good series and regular season for Streit, he is another defenseman that you cannot give top pairing minutes to. He needs to be sheltered.
-Even if Ed Snider is calling Ghost, "Go-to-be-here" he Go-to-be-in-Allentown. He is small defenseman who despite playing well needs to play in the AHL before making the large transition to the NHL. He should not be in your top 4 or top 6 to start the season. At most this season even if he is tearing it up in the AHL he should be a callup
-Then we get to Luke Schenn. Remember when we saw all that progress from Schenn last year and then how he lost it all until half way through the season, well hate to break it to you but he is unpredictable and cannot be fully relied.
-Morin needs more time in Q to grow his offensive game and get more oppurtunities. No reason to bring him up now. Its called Developing Defensemen. You leave em, let em play, and wait.
-Then we get to grossmann who is a good defenseman but he is getting older and more injured

So were looking at a top 10 pick in 2015 I guess.

Okay. I know you want Gost in the lineup but will it really kill you to wait half an NHL season or the whole one so he can continue his development? And what will you say about him if he cannot handle the NHL? Youll call him a bust.

We really are overvaluing him as a player. Yes I think he will make it to the NHL but only if you develop him correctly. If we had a number one defenseman who could eat up tough minutes leaving really easy ones for him I would consider it.

Using the Krug situation as a comparable is bad. Everyone seems to forget Krug played 63 games in the AHL. Ghost has played 0. Krug also plays on a team where he can be covered up and slotted behind Chara, Seidenberg, Boychuk, and Hamilton. He does not have to play tough defensive minutes. The Flyers do not have the luxury of this situation. Krug should be what he hope Ghost's developmental path takes but we cannot expect it. Krug is deviation not the norm.

Well you said Morin, Hagg, and Ghost.

Gusty is incapable of holding down a top 6 job and is easily muscled off the puck. Pro scouts that Bill respects and has talked to place him at a 6 or 7th defenseman. That should speak for itself.

If you think Lauridsen projects as the same as Gus. A 6 or 7th defenseman. He is nothing more and cannot be relied upon to fix the absence of Timmonen and Coburn.

Alt is a wildcard. He might be able to hold down a top 6 role and maybe even a top 4 role but he has never played in the NHL. You cannot give him a role and expect him to flourish.

We do not have good enough top defensemen to be able to integrate this many prospects into the core.
