Actually a pretty nice write up from Timmy with many points fans like us are interested in. Biggest things I took away

-Holmgren stressed the Flyers would take a long look at Ghost and Hagg in camp, no mention of Alt or Lauridsen.

-Holmgren volunteered there has been no negotiations with B Schenns camp since last summer

-Holmgren related hes not so much dissappointed in Vinny as he is for Vinny. Seems like the back injury was indeed an issue all year. Dont know whats going on there.

It's really early, and you absolutely have to take everything they say with a grain of salt, but it sure doesn't sound like neither Snider or Holmgren are looking to move Vinny just yet.

If I was handicapping it now, just based on what Berube, Holmgren and Snider have said, if I was Brayden Schenn, I'd be keeping a bag packed

Again, it's early, and those are just quotes. But after reading them...Just saying that if I had to guess, as of today, based on how consistent they were about Vinny, it sure as hell doesn't feel like he's the one who's going to need his mail forwarded in a month or two

Fabbri with another, this time he stole the puck, passed to a teammate, then gets a pass back and goes short side

I dont think they are going to say to the media they are going to be moving Vinny. They should privately ask him then pursue it. What if they cant get a deal done? Then they have just alienated Vinny further

They're stuck with him for another year at least I think they know that. They're just not going to buy him out after an injury filled/transition year. His value couldn't be any lower now. I just hope he comes back stronger it was very apparent he had no core strength.

Agreed with what you just wrote. Totally agree.

I think the biggest thing is that Snider absolutely doesn't want him on the fourth line. He understands why he was, but that one is one I think we can believe is true.

There were some caveats, like Homer saying they knew they switched systems on Vinny after they gave Laviolette the prison-yard shank, so sure, you could say, "Hey, Vinny, we're defense-first now. Do you want to go somewhere else?"

But for me...the thing was how consistent they were about what they said. Like they had clearly talked about it, beyond the typical media preparation. I have a feeling they have already evaluated Vinny...just a feeling.

Paul Holmgren Today:
“A lot of people saw Shayne play in the NCAA final. He played pretty good, but that’s a big jump. I saw him play one American League game, and he played pretty good in that game, too.

“I like some of our young guys, but is it a stretch to say they’re going to be ready for the NHL? It’s probably a stretch, but there are also guys that have done it over the past couple of years with other teams. I’m not sure I would say our guys are not in the same boat as those guys.”

People for got to quote this part. He admits its a stretch and were our players are in a different situation

Hell I dont want him on the 4th line. Either put him in a position where he can succeed or trade him. I agree we can believe him on that.

They have totally been talking about this the entire season and definitely recently to decide the future. Snider is a hands on owner who definitely would want to know whats happening with Vinny. I believe they evaluated him after the playoffs, already had a long conversation, and have made a decision. Whether that decision is one more year or to cut ties is still up to be determined

I think the thing that kills Brayden Schenn is that Vinny has more hockey sense than he does, and they know it -- that quote about Schenn not being able to get to, then stay and play at a consistent pace, speaks volumes.

Again, it's Breakup Day. Stuff gets said for the media.

But one thing I do know, because we've all watched this franchise for years and years: Schenn not having a contract means...something.

Because they lock up everybody they truly want to keep, 95 times out of 100, before it even gets to Breakup Day.

Baby Schenn not having a contract yet means something. Because the Flyers absolutely negotiate during the season and cut deals all the freaking time.

It would be a shame to sell low on B. Schenn, but I'd understand it if they did.

You know what, though? We don't really know what people around the NHL think of Brayden Schenn's value. We see some of the flaws, some of the inconsistency, and it drives us nuts.

But look at some of the teams around the NHL right now. There are teams that are absolutely STARVING for offense, for a young centerman who has proven he can score at the NHL level -- and for whatever flaws Schenn has, one thing I think he's proven is that he's going to get you 20 goals at this level.

He also has the kind of size you need at that position, isn't soft.

He might have more value than we think -- and that's not the orange-colored glasses talking. I mean, seriously, if you're Calgary, or Buffalo, or Dallas, or Edmonton, or Washington...there's a fit there for Brayden Schenn, because Schenn's better than what you ran out there for an entire NHL season

Homer also mentioned Lavy was the main one recruiting Vinny and thats one of the reasons he chose Philly...Enter Berube which had a different system and different fit. My guess both he and Schenn are gone, Flyers wont sell low on Schenn maybe they can package the two who knows.

Did I mention recently that I love Kimmo
This year coming in, I wanted to make the playoffs and play well and we made the playoffs but exited in the first round and still missing the Stanley Cup. That’s something that’ still in my mind. Let’s put it this way, if I won the Stanley Cup earlier I probably wouldn’t be here and talk to you guys, I would say ‘okay, that’s it’. But I haven’t won it. That’s the only thing that keeps the hopes up. It’s not money, it’s not anything else - it’s the Stanley Cup.”

hey, just because the team you built plays every other game like they've never seen each other before doesn't mean you should be held accountable in any way for that

I wouldn't be so sure. Yesterday was not the day you would announce such a thing. There would be a new conference specifically just for Hextall and Holmgren. Snider sure made it sound like its in the works. I don't think he even referred to Holmgren by the title of GM, but direct of hockey operations or whatever. Holmgren said what I would expect a GM to say until the actual switch is ready to be announced.

I really don't think there is anything definitive there. I truly think that the Flyers would move Schenn in the right deal. But they don't know if that deal will be there, so it's not something they can really answer right now.
As far as Lecavalier is concerned. I know that he's not the type of center that Berube prefers. So they have to decide where he fits. If they're not going to play him at a scoring line center spot, and preferably with a play making winger, then they need to move him.

The only thing it means is that they haven't been able to come to a deal yet. I wouldn't read anything more into it then that. Even if they were thinking about trading him, they would still want him signed.
