Why would Babcock come here? Millions of dollars, and if he becomes the coach who won two golds for canada, two cups with detroit and a cup in Toronto, he will be a hockey god. He's probably okay with pressure after two olympics. Besides if a high profile guy with multiple
job options would never sign in TO, tell that to Burke, Wilson, Dudley, Carlyle, Shanahan, quinn, Dryden, etc - Zezel

Edmonton is number 3 I believe. Yes that would be cheaper. If the leafs want Ekblad they have to get florida pick but Edmonton you can get a really good center. The thing with Florida though is that the owner is giving them the go ahead to spend big so if the leafs would want to send a good player with a contract they don't want Florida is the way to go. - JVR_42_PK81
Oh, thought they were #2. NHL.com posted the story 16 mns ago that Tallon's shopping the pick. I thought this was just speculation.... now it's getting interesting. |

Florida is number one and tallon said himself they are shopping the pick. Edmonton trading their pick is just specualtion because they really don't need it. |

There are lots of teams willing to give him the same millions of dollars. Taking a job with the Leafs would be biggest risk towards tarnishing the hockey god status he already holds. Wilson and Carlyle were well respected coaches with lots of options before they started here. Where's Wilson now? How many teams will be after Randy when he's (hopefully) let go now? |

Gardiner + 8th + mid-round pick
for
Gagner + 3rd
Don't forget that Toronto is taking on salary here as well. |

After consultation with the most knowledgeable poster here I think Gardiner sucks.

Big risk, big reward. Shanahan on board, who knows? Despite how badly it's gone for some big names in TO, winning here is still a tantalizing prospect.

Toronto has dealt away some great picks and prospects over the last dozen years. If they did a fair deal with Florida for the #1 pick, the fan reaction would be incredibly enthusiastic and positive. |

More likely that Edmonton trades up to get Ekblad, and Florida only has to drop from 1 - 3. |

Oilers need a C just as bad as they need a D.
Everyone here wants a big D in their back end but we sometimes have to settle for something lesser.
Weirdo?

Well there is a method to the Leafs madness. Could work out perfectly:
-Leafs in 2014/2015 could crap the bed & win the McDavid sweepstakes. Yes the Leafs are bad enough. Remember the Leafs went from 22nd overall to 8th in just 14 games.
-Leafs than could hire Babcock at the end of next season.
-So going into 2015/2016 Leafs could have Babcock behind the bench & a line featuring McDavid & Brown.
Is that the Shana-plan?
IF SO...............I LOVE IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
