Ducks needed to bury those grade A scoring chances they had in OT. It was only a matter of time. |

They really got caught running around in their own end.
Great pass by Doughty to set Kopitar up. |

He would have deflected that high and wide!
So would it hurt more to see the Kings, Pens or Rags win the cup? |

I have the feeling that if any team can unseat the Broons it's the New York Rangers. |

Does anyone think the flyers would entertain resigning kimmo, if the money is right maybe around 4.5, to basically play/mentor ghost on the 3rd pairing? While also using him on the 2nd pp and pk units?
This would mean a trade of grossman
That way you'd have your pairings as
Streit/coburn
Macdonald/schenn
Ghost/kimmo

Some entertaining comments from philly.com

Thing needs to step aside and take berube, sissy girioux, cry baby fingernail chipped mason, that old sweed dude on the team that skates like a turtle, pumpkin head hartnell, and that smelly french dude lecavlai, oh yeah and al moronganti!
Henry Winkler.
Take Coburn out to the middle of the ocean, tie an anchor to him and throw him overboard if they can't find somebody to make a trade with. Coburn is a complete stiff and his $4.5 million per contract is not on par with his ability. Another over paid over valued useless Flyers defenseman given far too much money for what he's actually worth. On the better teams in the league he wouldn't even make the roster. On crappier teams in the league he'd be 6-7 defenseman at best. He's complete garbage. |

Playing center for the kind of minutes a second-line center should be playing requires more than just producing offensively -- can he backcheck effectively? Does he defend down low effectively? Is he winning faceoffs in all three zones?
I like Lecavalier as a person -- I thought he showed tremendous character this year.
But at the same time, this is a business. This is a sport based on production. Lecavalier might not score 50-60 points again. Does he do anything else well enough to justify being a second-line center, anymore?
That last question is a legitimate, honest-to-God, concern -- because this sport isn't all about goals, and we don't even know if he can do that anymore.
If he scores 20 and is on the ice for 35, that isn't helping. - AllInForFlyers
He might not score 50-60 points again. And he might. And he has to improve in other areas of his game. And he has to get healthy. But again, one player on the ice when a goal is scored, is not the only player responsible.

His points would go up, but I don't think it would be the radical jump your thinking it would be. I think he'd have a few more than Kimmo.
Its impossible to determine if he would make the PP better without him getting a long look. THats why its useless to argue over right now.
Tbh, I would feel comfortable with either of them. Both offer different positive attributes. They're just a little different. Kimmo is more finesse and distributor. Streit is more powerful and able to beat goalies one on one with his shot. - PhillySportsGuy
Streit is also a capable passer on the PP, and distributor on the puck. And I did not say it would be a radical jump. Streit is a proven PP QB.

Why would I have a bias? He didn't kick my dog. He's a Flyer. I would want him to do well.
I'm man enough to admit when Im wrong about a signing. I was wrong about Streit. I thought he would be a huge liability on defense. He wasn't a shutdown defenseman, but he definitely pulled his weight when you consider his offensive contributions. - PhillySportsGuy
Not sure, but when it's stated that a normal season would see Lecavalier scoring 15 goals, when he has scored 20 or more in 13 out of 15 seasons, there's something there.

Shooting percentage varies from year to year. It has mostly to do with luck. A player can have a bad year, but shoot a high percentage just as a player can have a good year and shoot a low percentage.
Scott Hartnell had a low shooting percentage this season but still fired the same amount of shots at the net he usually does. There is reason to believe he will produce his usual 25 goals next season if he plays similarly to this season.
A guy like Voracek shot 17% last season. His usual shooting percentage is about 10%. Therefore, he had some puck luck last season. Thats why he was a point per game player last season then returned to his usual output this season. It doesn't mean he regressed or wasn't a good player. He just didn't have the luck he had last year.
Lecavalier had the highest shooting percentage of his career this past season. I said in a normal season (12% shooting percentage) he would have had about 15-16 goals. He had a great deal of puck luck.
I know its pointless to point these things out to you because all you care about is total goals. I'm just letting you know theres an equally good chance VL shoots 9% as there is he shoots 15.2% again. 9% would have resulted in 12 goals. If VL takes 132 shots next season (same as this season), there is a 95% chance he will finish with between 12-20 goals. |

It's also easier to produce earlier in the season when teams are still breaking in rookies, new players, and new systems wrinkles, and the refs haven't swallowed the whistles yet and PP's are still plentiful. It gets a lot harder late in the year when teams start coming together and start locking things down and everybody's in make-the-PO's mode.
That's why it's dangerous to put too much emphasis on what players or teams are "on pace for" early in seasons or during a shortened year like 12-13. Otherwise, we might actually believe that the Leafs are a PO-caliber team and Alex Steen is as good at scoring goals as Alex Ovechkin. |

Weren't we talking about getting shots through?
Streit's bombs are much more likely to get blocked than Kimmo's judicious use of the wrister... again, the numbers don't lie.
Kimmo's on the 1st-PP because he's not just a better distributor, but plain better at getting shots through, so our two big-bodies in front can tip and bang home rebounds.
Remember, Streit had a shot to steal Kimmo's QB job, but dropped the ball. - Tomahawk
serious question, how does the amount of posts hit affect the calulation since a hit post isnt counted sd a shot on net?. I swear Streit must have had 12-15 dead on post shots.

Can you only go if you're a STH then??
Or you mean they get first dibs? - Giroux_Is_God
At the time of our last meeting, they didn't know the allotment yet, so didn't know if it would go outside of STHs and didn't know how many per STH. So we don't know yet. (They may, but they'll let us all know in a release.)
