Maybe they seek a new first line solution on the wing, and bump Voracek down? Not sure Jake "deserves a demotion", but they need to do something about that second line, it was at best a project all season. He could be the playmaking winger Bunny needs.
- BulliesPhan87

I wouldn't mind that. I also want Matt Read used differently. I think he can be a speedy option for a scoring line. He has the ability. Can always get a checking line winger easier then a scoring line winger. But I also want Couturier used differently, and given more offensive opportunities. So there are really a lot of puzzle pieces that have to be determined where they fit.

If you're Garth Snow, do you keep this year's pick and bank on rebounding next year and forfeit your chance at McDavid and Eichel if things go wrong again?

For the record, I'd keep this year's pick.

- five4fighting10

I don't think he has a choice but to keep it & hope things turn around so next years first rounder is not a top 10 pick.

I don't like when guys do that, that means someone else busts his a$$ for 1/2 a year, & then goes out of the lineup t make room for the "purposely rested guy".
I understand keeping Kimmo fresh would benefit us, but I don't think he's that type of guy. If anything, he would be perfectly slotted in the #5 or 6 spot, with lesser minutes, depending on who we could acquire.

- puckhead17

Slotting him as the 5th defenseman won't work because they don't have enough depth to do that. It won't work unless he takes a significant pay cut. Having him come mid season would allow them to use prongers ltir and save money.

It would basically be like trading for timonen mid season without giving anything up

Agreed, there's some decisions to be made. If Laughton makes the club and can be an effective defensive center, that might help free up the Couturier line to play some offense.

They would have the depth if they acquired another top 4 guy, (which has to be tops on their list).
I don't think they are going into the summer banking on getting 70 plus games, & 20 plus minutes from him, (at age 40).

With their luck, you just know that's going to backfire on them, lol.

I'm not keen on Rinaldo anymore. I think he didn't feel like he was at risk of being scratched, and the discipline suffered for it. The Flyers probably want to keep him for next season though.

Agreed, re: Roseville

- BulliesPhan87

I wish they understood that you can find energy players without the amount of baggage Rinaldo comes with

One area I think the Flyers need to work on is the powerplay. That first unit had some really effective stretches, but I think they also ended up being too predictable a lot of the time. They need something, anything, from that second unit too.

That's exactly it. Almost any other team (other than Edmonton) I'd say, no worries they'll bounce back and pick in the early teens probably. But with Garth Snow and the Islanders, who knows.

First thing is Streit should be on the first unit. That change should've been made this season in my opinion.

Agreed. A threat at the point on the first unit, and a better playmaker on the second unit could've been a big boost.

The 2nd unit was alright once they got setup. They just had a horrible time trying to get into the zone.

I agree about changing things up a bit on the top unit. Maybe giving different looks

I'd like to have two point men on the second unit instead of the umbrella. I think the formation left them prone to easy clears.

Timonen distributed the puck well, but teams just didn't respect his shot enough.

That's not a bad idea. Their pp look on both units left them susceptible to short handed chances all year. It was ridiculous how many they gave up

There's trade-offs... Kimmo is better at getting his shot through and much safer to have as the only dman on the ice in case the play goes the other way.

Better then Striet at getting the shot through? I would disagree. Timonen rarely looked to shoot the puck, and when he did, it was just to get it on net. Streit can get the puck to the net, and is far more of a threat to blast the puck home from the point. And I have no issues trusting Streit defensively. He had a very strong year for the Flyers overall, and was a quality signing.
