This would be an interesting wrench thrown into the offseason plans:
Matthew Coller of ESPN: Four potential players who could receive an offer sheet this offseason: 1. Ryan O’Reilly (COL) – The Maple Leafs would be the best fit. Offer sheet of seven years and $49 million. 2. Brayden Schenn (PHI) – The Dallas Stars would be the best fit. Offer sheet of five years and $30 million. 3. Mats Zuccarello (NYR) – The Montreal Canadiens are the best fit. Offer sheet of six years and $36 million. 4. Reilly Smith (BOS) – The Columbus Blue Jackets are the best fit. Offer sheet of five years and $25 million.
Compensation would be a 1st, a 2nd, and a 3rd. That sucks, but I can't see the Flyers matching an offer like that either...

I would just like to see schenn play a whole season at center without VL or briere on his wing. Give the kid those things and I guarantee he'll get better in all areas - PhillySportsGuy
The Flyers...this franchise has been so much fun for me over the years. But they owe themselves this. They might not even know it.
But they owe themselves seeing what this kid becomes. They've gone through the hard part. Just get the kid another winger, for Gosh sakes |

we dont' trade schenn unless we get an equally high talent in return that's young
vinny goes first if we trade a center |

Personally I'm not trading him. I would listen if a team called. |

I wouldn't if that was the offer sheet he could be given.

Nor would I...if it gets to that point, then work out a deal or take the picks. Can't be scared to not overpay, even if it means losing the player.
Nashville, for the record, has paid one large defenseman around $65 million to not make the playoffs

Wouldn't be a deal to work out, if he is given an offer sheet the options are accept the terms of it or take the picks. |

In other words, go into rebuild mode, wait half a decade to know if Ekblad will blossom into a franchise D and open other, immediate holes. - bmeltzer
i wouldn't call that rebuild mode. if they can get value for schenn, as you suggested is the only way they should consider doing it, then this is a way, albeit unlikely, to do that. i doubt florida would take schenn, hartnell grossmann and out pick for the #1 overall
edit: we could also wait for 5 years for schenn to 'blossom' and find out he topped out this year..... |

Exactly. Schenn is on the upswing of his career, VL in on down trend of his career. |

Yea that number is too high. All those offers seem more than what any team might offer up. Those are super aggressive offers.
In b schenns case I take the picks. |

Huh. Isn't it allowed for a team to send you something so you don't match the offer sheet, a la Mikael Renberg heading to Tampa so Chris Gratton could come up?
It would be separate transactions, but essentially, a trade? |

Give Schenn a bridge deal and trade Lecav(if possible). Put Schenn at Center and look for another winger. |

you won't get back anything, period. Nothing good. Nothing bad. Vinny stays. No Movement Clause. |

I believe an offensive minded team with a need on the PP could use him. $16.5 million isn't an outrageous sum. |

If hes agreeable maybe we can ship him out along with Gus to a team say like the Coyotes or Preds. Then he can wink wink get Prongered LTIR due to his back issues year after year, or if he plays thats great. But an organization that can absorb his cap hit while getting another piece in Gus.
I dont know just spitballing. |

Believe he selected a eastern conference team for a reason, doubtful at least to me he'd accept any request that would involve him moving to the western conference. |

Vinny would have to want to go. This is like the whole Hartnell situation. If they're happy here, they aren't leaving. Pretty simple.
And of all teams, the Coyotes and the Preds don't seem to be the kind of teams to pay a 5 mil/year cap to just anyone. It's would take someone special. Someone other than Vinny.
Cozy up to them, boys. They're hangin out for awhile. |

The Flyers, without a Stanley Cup since 1975, feel the same way after losing to the Rangers in seven opening-round games.
"I still don't think they were the better team," winger Wayne Simmonds said.

and I know you're spitballing. I'm just saying there's a 5% chance of it. Max.
However, I do think the subject of Schenn being traded or us receiving compensation is an interesting one. I have NO IDEA what he's worth. I have a feeling if Homer offer him something, it'll be way too much. I could also see him become poached and then turn into a productive 60 point+/year guy. Just our luck.
A 1st, 2nd, and 3rd rounder is kinda interesting though, right? Unfortunately this doesn't appear to be the deepest draft, and yeah, we'd have a glaring hole where he was, but a 1,2,and 3 is still tempting, eh? |

I dont have much of an issue with Hartnell. But I think the GM is a little bit warmer on Vinny that Berube is. I hope Berube sticks to his guns and will have his plan as B Schenn at center. Berube can at least threaten Vinny with preparing him to get ready for camp as the LW, which might make him walk up to Holmers office and knock on his door. After that who knows |
