Brayden would play well if he had a good speedy winger with him, simmonds and VL are both slower player. Put Akenson with schenn and simmonds or maybe even try laughton, bot have speed and skill. Unless we can pull off a great d man who can take over a game or a solid number 1 I say keep them. Don't want to see Brayden tare it up somewhere else an us feeling sour... Like we always are when trading young talent away |

Vanek kind of scares me. He's both a puck hog, and prone to streaky play with stretches of insane production followed by loooong dry spells.
$7+mil for him has me a little weary. |

So what's the proposed deal for Ehrhoff? |

I say just trade a few guys to clear cap space (vinny / grossman or schenn) plug holes with UFAs and keep building through the draft. Keep youth movement going strong. |

Akeson is not a fast player. He is an average skater.

He is playing on the fourth line getting no ice time. I don't see that being an issue. |

can? sure! but its not easy. not all of the time. Sometimes!, like Ehrhoff, eg
Ehrhoff has a NMC, but I think he'd waive that in a second. |

ehrhoff has a limited ntc. he is allowed to pick 8 teams that he won't go to and is open to the rest of the league. thats completely different. |

I hat to trade picks, but to bolster the blue line for the next 5 + years I'd seriously consider thath.

i'm just saying, if Vinny is frustrated enough to waive his NMC, then there are two issues
- he's expensive for what he brings to the table
- other GM's will smell blood and offer either bupkis OR you're gonna take a garbage contract back.
suppose of all you want is a salary dump, then fine, but you gotta find a buyer with the money to spend on him and his lackluster production |

I was just giving an example of a guy that wouldn't mind leaving regardless of his contract |

Honestly Id think getting anything higher than a 4th round pick back or a B level prospect a complete steal. Full salary dump. |

5 years might be pushing it. I hope he's still solid at 36, but i'd rather offer a little less or go for something younger. |

Moulson is going to get like 5.5mil or 6mil in UFA too. Might as well spend the 7~7.5 to try and get Vanek. If the cap space opens up to upwards of 71mil like it was estimated than they have a shot, if not gotta go with the cheaper option. - FlyersSteve118
It's only going to 69 or 70, decline of Canadian dollar.

Gary Bettman says a weaker Canadian dollar will put next year's salary cap at $69M or $70M. Had been projected at $71M.

He's expensive for the season he had this year. But if he's healthy, and is put in the right situation, he wouldn't be expensive. Flyers have to avoid taking a garbage contract back, or it would defeat the purpose of moving Lecavalier. They might have to eat part of the contract in a retain salary deal. But if that's what needs to be done to improve the team, then they should do it.
And he still scored 20 goals this year. The biggest question is his health. Can he get back to where he needs to be with his back. If he can, then he's still a pretty good player.

Sorry. Not trying to troll, but it's gonna affect big market teams. That's why I said I think the Flyers would have a better shot at Moulson if they can sign him for under 6 million. |

mm. so a good cap hit, but you've got him until he's 38?
i'm wishy-washy on it. it certainly wouldn't be a horrible pick up, but that's a long deal |

yeah, mjl, VL is still a pretty good player, but I think the whole league watched him slow down a little more this season as it progressed.
I still think he can be a 23-28 goal guy for them next year if put in the right scenario.
still, he's lost a step. That's obvious to everyone, especially GMs |
