I am a life long pens fan and I am sick of hearing about the Staal cheap shots. It wasn't that bad, it didn't phase Sid, Sid burnt Staal to a crisp then sniped one passed the most over rated goalie to ever lace them up. 2 minute penalty was in order, but I'm not lynching Staal over it.
- Grinder47

Yeah, they both should have been penalties, but anyone who watched that thinks Staal purposely targeted the head is a homer. The first one Staal was going to cross check Crosby in the back. The 2nd one Crosby went down and Staal was obviously trying to get his stick in front of Crosby before the shot on goal.

To the idiot who said he wishes Staal's career ended because of these two minor plays. I guess this is your 1st year ever watching hockey, and you might want to switch to watching bowling, since you think someone should have a permanent disability because he tapped someone in the head on accident.

And the bolded part is just plain dumb.

Man, you are pretty delusional bud. However, humorous nicknames, they aren't an actual defense to what happened, and doesn't change the fact that two blatant cheap shots were taken, that would likely merit a suspension during the regular season. But its the postseason, so who the hell knows what will happen, the NHL is never close to consistent.

Generally Crosby gives better than he gets and rarely does he earn a penalty, much less any talk of a suspension during the regular season. Yes, Staal gave him a good cross check to the face. Crosby, well within his rights in this case, responded with a slash. Then Staal got another shot on him.

What's annoying is the Penguin players' response to Staal's actions. The guy was right when saying that Malkin, Neal, Kunitz and yes, even Crosby, are all very adept and taking the same kind of unprovoked cheap shots on players. They should be the last ones calling any player, particularly one like Staal who has exactly zero suspensions on his ledger, cheap.

My issue is more with the media, acting like what Staal did was anything close to what these guys do and get away with, really with the exception of Neal. If Staal had done that to Gibbons a word wouldn't be said about it, but b/c its Crosby then Staal must be suspended. Get lost, Staal was doing what he has to do and I even acknowledged that he got away with a penalty but when a group of Pittsburgh reporters stand on their soapbox and call for supplementary discipline for a player that has a concussion history himself is ignorant. Again, this same group of reporters nominate Matt Cooke for the Masterton. Enough said.

Just curious to how a person's fan affiliation changes the facts or what happened? That is a very common point to throw from numerous people on this site, and its utterly stupid.

I'll wait, explain how his being a Pens and NJ fan changes that it was a cheap shot.

- Guile

Its the hypocrisy of the situation.

This isn't over Donnie, Ranger fans on this board, don't quit on this series, if nothing else these guys have shown resliency all season long. Think about what SJ, STL, Phoenix did to the Rangers in that first week. They're all home right now, we are in this, don't quit until the final buzzer of the clincher sounds, that is if the Rangers are on the short end!!!

Unlike Sunday night in Pittsburgh, last night was all about the Rangers "luck". No bounces, 3 posts and a suddenly hot goalie at the other end. Not to mention, Crosby was overdue, and no one could defend that bounce they got on the 2nd goal, when Jokinen came out of the box.

As Brooksie mention this morning, cant blame the league for the scheduling. Just imagine if the Knicks made the playoffs? We would be complaining is too many days off in between games.

I've pointed out on numerous occasions, that Stepan is not a gifted skater for a pro. He depends on his skills and hockey sense to succeed. In this series, unlike the 1st, he just can't keep up. Say what you will about Crosby, fact is he a tremendous skater as is Malkin.

Nash and McDonagh must be hurt. The change in both their games is alarming. Mac is skating fine, but can't seem to make that great 1st move he makes when opposing forwards are bearing down on him, most likely the shoulder is bothering him. Nash is very puzzling, I'd really like to think his lack of anything is attributed to injury, because if he's healthy and playing this way, the Rangers really need to consider the amnesty buyout this summer.

I kind of feel for MSL. I'm very sure in felt he would come in here and light it up. Three goals in thirty games is not what he expected.

And finally, anyone who thinks the Rangers don't miss Ryan Callahan's grit and 8-10 hits per game, and his leadership on and off the ice is sadly mistaken.

Exactly, and how bout Neal's stick to Fast face, I know it was accidental, but by the Pens fan logic, and Neal's history, it was on purpose and we should wish for Neal to be permanently hurt, or Malkin hitting Girardi from behind.

Actually it did phase Cindy. During the TV timeout Cindy was crying to the ref. Ref told him to have a seat and play the game. Pierre was saying Cindy went to the bench and was rubbing his neck. Poor baby!!!!!!!

They are bunch a little babies, the entire City, fan base and writers, they're a team that has been suspended so many times over the years it's hard to keep count, bunch of homers, Pittsburgh writer called Staal a "villain" it doesn't get more exaggerated than that

We can all agree it probably should have been a 2 minute penalty on the ice. But the outcry now is pretty funny. I have seen much worse on the ice that hasn't been called. Yet people want Staal's career to end now? I can only laugh

Was it over when the Germans bombed Pearl Harbor? NO Rangers are winning this series in 7. Totally outplayed the fems last night. Two unfortunate bounces caused two breakaways other than that Rangers were the better team. Except for that dreadful power play.

I agree, Staal got away with a penalty but how many times do we see Malkin swinging his stick or the Crosby slew-foot on Callahan, nothing is ever done and there is never any outcry, or Orpik's knee on knee on Stepan two years ago...

That play was much more dangerous. No penalty on that so no penalty on Staal.

As he has shut your team out 2 times in back to back nights......that would also be 1 more Cup than your all-world goalie if I am correct.

What kills me, is the 2 replays they show and want to burn Staal at the cross, is sh1t that happens every single game. I mean if someone legitimately took a purposeful head shot at Crosby, fine, but the 2 replays they show, lead to the perception most Pens fans haven't followed hockey that long.

I can't believe the outcry from that Pitt "journalist" over the Staal-Crosby incident. Look, Crosby initiates a lot of that type of play himself. How many two-handed slashes has he delivered over the years where no penalty was called despite a ref looking right at the play. Remember the Dubi-Crosby incident some years back leading Dubi to refer to Crosby as a whiny little baby or some such thing during an intermission interview.

Knowing the way Staal plays his intent I am sure was not to hit Crosby in the back of the head. To me it looked like he was delivering the cross check to his upper back but while Staal's head was turned to the right in the direction of the puck, Crosby crouched a bit and got it in the back of the head. You want to call it a penalty fine. You want to call it cowardly then call out all of the individual acts of cowardice committed by the Pens every single game. Kovacevic could fill the entire sports section some days after Penguin games in that case.

It's the playoffs. Staal is doing everything he can to make Crosby and any other Penguin earn his space on the ice. What do they want? Staal to just stand around and let the Pens do whatever they want? Suck it up and drop the suspension and coward talk already. Count your blessings after a nice win for you guys. Rangers played very well and that easily could have been a Blueshirts win if it weren't for Fleury playing a good game and some Ranger bad luck (i.e. three cross bars/posts and miscommunication between Richie and Zucc leading to the Jokinen breakaway).

If you watch the video Cindy actually got him back in front of the net, we'll ignore that of course, if Cindy didn't go down like the little pole smoker he is that slash wouldn't have been to his head, stay on your feet whore!

When we win this series I'm gonna spend the next 4 months in the Pens thread tormenting this clown
