You think buying out Richards is a done deal in the offseason? Do you think they would shop Nash as well in the offseason? - Vukota
If the Rangers go out lame, against the Penguins, and Nash continues to sh!t the bed offensively the Rangers could very well shop Nash around the league this summer.
Richards was getting bought out regardless of what they did in the playoffs or how much he contributed to the postseason cause.
There is no scenario feasible that can justify the Rangers holding onto a potential albatross of a contract as his. With this offseason being the last, to buy out any remaining cap clogging contracts, the writing is on the wall for Richards future in NY. |

I think its something AV doesn't want, but for business reasons they have to do it. Shopping Nash, the Rangers gave up a lot for him, I can't see the Rangers looking to trade him if they are going to buy out Richards. For one, what the heck are you going to back for him at this point? - Blueshirts4ever
True, you really can't trade him now because his return won't be anywhere near what you gave up to get him. |

Don't underestimate the stupidity of multiple franchises.
Nash did score 26 goals in 64 games played this season. As bad as his postseason resume is he still is a reliable regular season goal scorer and that has value around the league. |

They really didn't give up a ton to get him. Dubinsky is the only player, thus far, that seems to be truly missed by the organization. |

Yeah I figured Richards would be done regardless. Only thing that could F them is if Richards gets seriously hurt before the end of the playoffs then they wouldn't be able to buy him out in the offseason |

Richards should be a done deal but who's gonna take Nash, he as good as ours for the duration of his contract, he'll show flashes of dominance in between the weeks of utter frustration |

At the time of the trade Anisimov was the one I was most sorry to see go. Dubinsky was horrible that year. |

Both are middle of the road type of forwards but Dubinsky really seems to thrive in postseason play.
Nash, by all rights, is still the best player in that trade but his lack of playoff production is truly alarming and without a doubt a huge disappointment. |

Nash is who he is and it's something the Rangers will likely be stuck with. |

Curious question... no troll intended:
At this point in the playoffs what are your thoughts on the St. Louis / Callahan trade? In losing Callahan, to me anyway, the Rangers lost a player who was really able to get Crosby and Malkin off their games. |

Absolutely, looking at it now, and the way Dubinsky played against Pitt this year, I would take than in a heart beat over what Nash has shown us this year. |

Richards is being bought out and Nash will likely be stuck here. Unless, and only unless, he can find a fellow brain dead general manager to take Nash and his bloated five year contract off the Ranger books. |

Callahan wasn't a Marchand type pest. Pittsburgh's two big guns still thrived against the Rangers while Callahan was here.
I like the trade regardless of St. Louis' offensive struggles. Callahan was a good player but nowhere near what he was demanding and Sather got a player for someone who was likley leaving on July 1st. |

Exactly, which is why I think Nash is the Rangers problem for the remainder of his contract. |

Me personally, I still do the trade. I actually think we are doing a decent job against Crosby & Malkin. And thats with McDonagh still probably hurt, and Girardi playing like poop. I don't think Callahan would make much of a difference right now. That's just my opinion though. |

I really don't want to get into the buyout stuff and off season debates until after the season, because we will have 4 months for all that talk, but people who are advocating amnestying Rick Nash need to realize that the regular buyout of his contract is actually rather buyout friendly:
Rick Nash buyout from CapGeek.com
2014-15: $2,566,667
2015-16: $2,566,667
2016-17: $2,466,667
2017-18: $2,266,667
2018-19: $2,666,667
2019-20: $2,666,667
2020-21: $2,666,667
2021-22: $2,666,667
if they use the amnesty, it will only be for Brad Richards, whose regular buyout is absurd:
Brad Richards buyout from CapGeek.com
2015-16: $1,000,000
2016-17: $4,500,000
2017-18: $6,500,000
2018-19: $6,500,000
2019-20: $6,500,000
2020-21: $833,333
2021-22: $833,333
2022-23: $833,333
2023-24: $833,333
2024-25: $833,333 |

That was one contract I thought Sather would never wiggle his way out of. Not only did he but he got a first pairing in the process. I know nobody knew Mcdonagh was going to be the player he turned out to be but he was a damn good prospect. For Gomez? Unreal. |
