Don't forget too many men. There's been a clear-cut one let go against NYR in each games of this round that's been missed.
I agree though, the Rags are getting away with murder in this series. I just hope that the stupid penalty Goc took last night doesn't start showing up more, for your guys' sake. - jmatchett383
that is true. it sucks when goc does it because hes a good PKer, and it means cement shoes adams has to take his place. but christ, they call a little pawing post whistle (which for the record im fine with. i like poop kept in check) but allow the rangers to shermans march their way throughout each shift.
that being said, at least it was goc losing his cool and not malkin or crosby. |

more or less, in 4300 words. and yeah, i actually really enjoy it. you get just enough policy stuff sprinkled in without it being preachy, and a lot of it really just relies on common sense.
i cant say the final was fun, but i enjoyed property a lot as a whole.
im still unsure how i feel about adverse possession though. on one hand its cool, but on the other hand its really jerked off. - stayinthefnnet
adverse possession in Alaska is really jerked off - so much so that in 2003 they basically made it impossible to establish (though if your rights had vested by then, you still can make the claim) - anyhow, in a state like this (geography wise), the policy behind it is totally lacking. |

The Rangers will keep the Pens in the pen Wednesday night. - Streit2ThePoint
The pen is mightier than the rag, but the rag can send grown men running out a room, while the pen can be used to sign for goods and services.

i think both arguments and stances have merit, but they do themselves a disservice by at least on the surface appearing to neglect the other side of the coin.
i know enough about the nature of numbers to know that over a large period, they can indicate a trend. and trends in the direction you want them are certainly indicative of a likelihood of success. they can be extremely useful and tell us many things. However, I also know enough about the nature of numbers to know that they typically need a contextual foundation to contain much worth. and sometimes, this contextual foundation can only be found from watching the game. the calculators and the eye balls are intrinsically linked. for me anyway - stayinthefnnet

I've been keying in on Olli Maata (as I'm sure you're aware), and he's been, well, pretty bad for the last few games (heck, he's a 19-year-old rookie). I'm not saying he should be sat, but it should be an option going forward.
However, I've yet to break him his QOC, TOI 5v5, his shot differential, his positional faceoff starts, and his possession numbers, so I can't really give an indication of his play with any kind of meaningful analysis. Once I can assign him a calculated number, I'll tell you if he's any good. - jmatchett383
i mean i can offer you my opinion on him, but i dont want to exactly interrupt this nice little dance you obviously have going with someone |

2 + 2 = 4. Eyeball your way out that, professor!
But no, you're right. I find statistics to be a reflection of a game, not an indicator. For instance, if we used stats to predict future trends, Giroux would be in maybe the top 70 in scoring after 15 games. No one took into context that the team was awful, he was injured, his linemates were playing poorly, etc. The eyeball test would have said otherwise, as he was generating chances, they just weren't going in. - jmatchett383
Exactly how I feel about statistics. They tell you what happened, not why it happened. |

I have a nice little dance going with everyone lately. Honestly, I forget why I keep coming here. Some of the new users are just....wow. I'm now officially a cranky old man.
My recent ban would be a nice example. I regret nothing. |

i think one of the cases used to illustrate the point came from alaska. Nome 2000 vs fagerstrom or something like that?
i can imagine the geography in alaska having a huge impact on it. but that would require me deciding if i like the concept of it or not. i honestly fluctuate a lot on it. i get the whole responsible owner thing, but still. like (frank) off. its mine. |

Explaining to a client why her RGB file doesn't look the same after it's ripped to a CMYK file. Why can't we just print her file as is?
You should re-examine your career choice my young friend. |

More or less. Now, yes, IN GENERAL, they are indicators of probable future trends, but statistically, no matter how large a sample, no trend will continue along its path indefinitely, with the exception being zero. |

may i ask what you do?
and how do i not do it? that sounds awful. i do worry that i will end up just enjoying learning about the law as opposed to actually doing something with it. (if i even can find someone to pay me to push papers around in this market) |

There are just too many variables, and Hockey is too much of a team game for any of these stats to have much relevance.
Looking at possession, a lot was made going into the Rangers series, how much better they were at 5 on 5 play during the season. And it turned out that's where the series was won and lost. But in my view, it was because the Flyers never really played their best Hockey, moreso then the Rangers were just the better 5 on 5 team.
During the regular season, the Rangers were the 7th best possession team at 5 on 5 play, versus the Flyers, who were ranked 20th. Know what the difference was between the two teams in ratings? 1.4 shots attempted for, per period. Or 3.2 shots attempted for per game difference between the two teams. That's it. That's the difference. The differences are miniscule.

honestly, it has more to do with the fact that this exam is over than anything. bed at 5 up at 6. but im cautiously optimistic at this point. and also wired on a preworkout supplement to stay awake.
although beating those blueshirt losers at their own game certainly doesnt hurt . |

Look, I told you. We're an anarcho-syndicalist commune. We take it in turns to act as a sort of executive officer for the week. But all the decision of that officer have to be ratified at a special bi-weekly meeting-- By a simple majority in the case of purely internal affairs,-- But by a two-thirds majority in the case of more major-- - hammarby31
