But you don't understand how that stat works. LA stops the Flyers from generating offense, Flyers redeem their 50% corsi by playing the worse teams after getting beat by LA in this department. You can't compare the two teams like that. That is NOT how you read that stat. - FlyersSteve118
So LA doesn't compile any of their Corsi stats against poor teams? I understand exactly how that stat works.

Holmgren said #Flyers would not allow Claude Giroux to play for Hockey Canada during World Champs. Giroux was awkward when asked about it. |

5V5 close is what we're talking about.
Teams that go up 2+ goals sit back -- aka score effects. - Tomahawk
No, 5 on 5 close is where the conversation is being steered, to avoid the obvious. Of all the conversations we've had on here, it's never been about 5 on 5 Corsi? None of the opinions you've offered on advanced statistics have dealt with 5 on 5 Corsi? Only 5 on 5 Corsi close?
I understand score effects, and why that is used. I'm talking about 5V5 Corsi.

I'm hoping Giroux didn't want to go and the team offered to take the heat for it. |

"You should have something in your media kit that tells me how to build an ad the way you want it. Maybe you could list some of the possible pitfalls I could miss when I do it myself."
I had a client tell me this I swear to every god that graced this earth. I put him on mute and asked the President of my company if I could tell him that we couldn't fit a college education and 20 yrs experience in our media kit. He said no. |

I'm always referring to 5V5 close, or word it as CF/FF in 'close situations'. |

So, question for you, with the preface I haven't been following your conversation.
Say I want to make a label for a product my company sells. I'm an engineer. I can generate a pretty handy JPEG or PDF, and I know some guys that do "the Photoshop." If I came to you with a file like that, would you be able to do anything with it? |

That's what I was thinking. That the Flyers did a solid for Giroux here.

Not true, we've had umpteen conversations based on simple 5 on 5 Corsi, both concerning players and teams.

Here's a good article on Zone Entries by an ex player, and his insights on it.
http://blogs.thescore.com...entries-as-a-hockey-stat/
Highlighted from the wrap-up section at the bottom are the following observations by the author.
"I don’t yet think zone entries are particularly valuable when assessing a single player just yet. In making player-by-player comparisons on a single team, maybe, but given that so many – SO many – decisions are dictated by the opposing team, I think those numbers might be more circumstantial than reflective of individual play."
"But for now, I can only see zone entries as a stat useful in the big picture (which can obviously change down the road). They might be able to help a team highlight a defensive weakness, they can help define certain player styles, but I’m still not sure I see a solid way to use them beyond that just yet." |

Nope. You can read back through this thread and previous threads, I'm always making a point to declare 'close'.
Seriously... if you have any questions about the basics, I'd be happy to take the time to walk you through them in PM. I know this stuff is confusing, and it's easy to get mixed up. You don't have to believe in it or anything, but it might be helpful to have a rough idea of the broader strokes. |
