Hextall was also GM of Los Angeles' AHL team for whatever that's worth to anyone |

Yeah, but be fair: We're getting one of the picks back, for moving Meszaros. As much as I have some concerns about future usage of MacDonald, in essence, the Flyers got an NHL defenseman, 27 years old, for a pick.
That's not easy to do. - AllInForFlyers
Well it is a lot easier to do with guys who are upcoming UFAs.
I know it is comparing forwards to D but Montreal and LA did not give up much for Vanek and Gabby.
Honestly I think if Amac reaches UFA and the Flyers offer him the same deal
6 yrs 30M they still sign him.
I don't see anyone outbidding that.
And they still have their 2nd and 3rd and the pick for Mez. |

the b level prospect sure not doing the first unless its for jones. - PhillaBully
I would much rather have Myers. 6'8" former calder trophy winner. Excellent skater. Hitting a bit of a rough patch with Buffalo going to hell around him. I think he gets to a good team and dominates. |

I agree.
I think the timing is due to the Flyers getting calls from orgs looking for GMs to interview Hextall for the role. This move was already in the works anyway.
As for the derpy "Same old, same old" opinions that are already coming out, we don't know what type of GM Hextall will be until he does some actual GM stuff. - johndewar
As Asst. GM, Hexy's been running the Phantoms since he came back, right? Maybe we can assume that Newbury, Yann Danis, Vande Velde, Whitmore for Newbury, and Kevin Goumas were his?
I'm encouraged by Hexy self-identifying as an analytical, patient guy... hopefully there'll be a whole lot less gut and a whole lot more brain in the Flyers' FO from here on out. |

It seems like a good time for a change, and for a more considered approach. |

What Hexy did in LA:
http://kings.nhl.com/club/news.htm?id=678006
Hextall, 49 (5/3/1964), returns to the Flyers organization after spending the last seven seasons with the Los Angeles Kings as Vice President/Assistant General Manager, which included the team’s run to the Stanley Cup Championship in 2012.
He also served as the club's General Manager of the Manchester Monarchs of the American Hockey League, the Kings’ primary affiliate. At the helm of the Monarchs, Hextall helped the team to an overall record of 290-205-24-32 in seven seasons and an appearance in the Calder Cup Playoffs in each season, including twice in the Conference Finals.
Prior to joining the Kings, Hextall spent the previous seven seasons with the Flyers, including 2002 through 2006 as Director of Pro Hockey Personnel. Since his retirement from the NHL in 1999, he joined the team as a Pro Scout. |

Why I went, I still don’t have an answer. It just felt like the right thing. I’m a gut type of person, I go with my gut.

I'd like to see Boucher do some TV.
He's a really good communicator and seemed comfortable with the camera in a few TV spots. |

But maybe they don't make the playoffs...it was nip-and-tuck down the stretch there, for a week to 10 days.
MacDonald...he isn't perfect, but he did help solidify Luke Schenn, took some minutes from others. I think it would've been harrowing down the stretch without him...might not have made it, and I do think it was really important that they did make them.

It's probably going to be a scout. And probably someone within the org.
I'll give you a name: Dave Brown. Let that one soak for awhile. |
