I think Snider's hands off until he gets a bur under his saddle... like w/ the never again thing w/ goaltending.
Would Hexy have had the guts to tell Snider to cool his jets and stick w/ Bob? That's what I wanna know. - Tomahawk
Snider rarely hears the word 'no'. Hextall may be the only GM around the NHL with the capacity to feed it to him. Either that or go on a Rob Brown chase. |

It definitely sounds like the kids are all staying put for now... B Schenn, Laughton, etc etc. |

Is cap space going to be an issue if Hextall is trying to build from with and with the cap going up? I'm all for improving the team but I don't like trades to just get rid of a guy and take salary back. - funmaster18
Trading even one of Grossmann or Vinny for a pick would make the cap situation a lot better. |

Worst case scenario is you eat a little bit of salary and Grossman is easily shipped off for a draft pick and cap space.
As much as everyone loves to mention NMC's (and they are relevant), you approach a guy like Scott Hartnell the right way, and anyone can be moved. Once a player knows he's no longer wanted, they typically don't want to stay. If nothing else, his NMC means we are limited in what we receive in return; we are likely stuck with a short list of teams Hartnell would accept a trade to. He is another player that because of his deal, we may have to eat some salary.
Of the 3, Coburn IMO is the least likely to go. You have to move Grossman or Harntell first to regain some valuable cap space. IMO, all 3 players under-performed to a degree this year and are simply not worth their salaries on THIS team.
Hartnell is more of a numbers game up front, as he was still relatively productive offensively. If his cap hit was 1m under what it is and about 2 years shorter, I don't think he goes anywhere.
And as much as some may disagree, I believe we are stuck with Lecavlier for the time being. - mochoson
For Grossmann a worst case scenario is shipping him off for another anchor contract plus the Flyers throw in a second round pick. Don't laugh, we have seen this happen.
I don't agree that Coburn underperformed this year. For the most part he was solid and performed to his expectations. As long as you don't expect him to be the #1 guy and an offensive defenseman, then I could see being disappointed.
Hartnell is the trickiest because I think he has value to the team, but maybe not as top line left wing. I think the org loves him.
I hope you are wrong about VL, but fear you may be right. Hopefully he heals and has a better season, and they find a role for him other then the 2nd PP and 4th line C. |

Think so. I believe Hextall will use this year to really evaluate the long-term prospects of keeping these players based on their performance next season. |

If Homer was still at the wheel, I'd say too low.
But who knows... Hexy says he enjoys the contract negotiation process, so hopefully that means he's going to be a harder sell than his predecessor. |

I am curious to see if Hextall makes the flyers a more west coast style team. In the mold of Kings, Anaheim, SJ |

A change was needed. Very excited for the Hextall era to begin!
Did Holmgren accept another position with the Organization? |

He would accept but wouldn't call them misadventures, just their style of cap "management". Which I actually agree with. Their philosophy was to spend to the limit. Whether you agree with that style or not, it's intentional IMO. |

I think there was a closed door meeting with Mr Snider. - Marc D
Or the Flyers choose to make their own announcements in their own time, not let media speculation determine premature announcements (before everyone affected--there are people involved who work for these guys--are informed of decisions up and down the chain).

Brimming with optimism, actually. Snider's the only part of the equation that still worries me now. |

One thing I noticed watching the Kings, the majority of their forwards are the kind of players they can use on the PK.
good skaters, good two way games
I like that model, especially when evaluating the bottom six forwards, or even the bottom 9 if you include the 2nd liners.
A true sniper who is an offensive specialist and can't be used on the PK, there shouldn't be more then 1 or 2 starters at the most in this role on a team |
