I think he already has done that this year. its not like he is coming in cold. - PhillaBully
No I know, but I think next year is THE year. Could have easily been this year, but B. Schenn and Couts are still just coming into their own, and I think the mess at center didn't help B. Schenn at all. I look at it like this is their last year to prove they're worth keeping. After being in the league for 4 years, it's sink or swim time. |

They did not know that Pronger was an over 35 deal. I know this for a fact. - bodiva88
Messing up Talbot's contract structure and not knowing that Hyka had to go back into the draft was another. |

I think we need to realize that these guys lie to us all the time and that's just part of the job. It's ok - eayost
Look. In any organization you don't let the media control the message if you have any communications savvy at all. Also, as I said, there are people involved who are directly and indirectly affected by personnel changes. In a well-run company, those people are informed before the press is informed. And often, those people have talking points and other Q&A information distributed so they know all the moving pieces and can respond knowledgeably and unemotionally to questions from media, customers, advertisers, and corporate partners. The last thing you want is for your people to be blindsided with questions about something important that has been leaked or prematurely revealed by someone not on the same page with management. |

Alternate explanation: He has a year left on his current contract and they have to give him something to do? |

Considering the position has been open since December, they obviously decided on this along the way but didn't want to change GMs during the season causing more unnecessary disruption along the way. It certainly makes it easier to understand why the position wasn't filled until now.
I'm looking forward to my first dinner with the new president. |

Where does Berube fit in? Was hextall on board with that change? Sounds like snider has already backed him. |

They've already dealt with 5 months of that role being in transition. I'm sure they don't view this as a stopgap measure. Holmgren is only 58. He's not retiring next June. |

And has anyone mentioned the Lavi signing in Nashville? I wonder what that will look like. |

Maybe not, but I'm guessing things would have been slightly neater had they been able to wait until Holmgren's current contract expired. |

I'm just happy there is new blood in the position of GM. Change was necessary. I think Hextall had a lot of input in the way the LA Kings have been built. |

Culture shock for Lavy. He is going from one extreme to another. It should be an interesting off season. The Preds will have to acquire some offense, and deal some defence... Josi would be fine!! |

It's got to be up to Hextall. When a coach is already in place, and a new GM is announced, majority of the time the new GM picks the coach. Not sure if Berube was all Holmgren or not. But it's rare that a coach stays when a new GM is hired. I guess it's a little different in this situation as Hextall was Assistant GM and could have had input in hiring Berube.
I just hope Snider gives Hextall free reign to make all the personnel decisions. Snider is 80+ years old and should have zero input on player personnel. Just sign the checks Ed. |

I agree, it should be up to hextall. I'm not all for or against Berube. More so curious what hextall's opinion on the matter is. I guess we will find out soon.
Wouldn't it have been something if Hextall had hired Lavi back before he signed with Nashville? |
