Oh, my goodness. The Laffs didn't just retain Carlyle, they gave him a two-year extension.
Excuse me, folks. I need to go get some popcorn and monitor Leafs-centric Twitter feeds and message boards, for the Apocalypse has come |

not only did the Leafs not fire Carlyle, they extended his contract two years.
having said that, i'm not sure i'd fire him either. look at that team he has to work with.

Any thoughts on Gagne being offered a tryout this year in camp? I know negotiations didn't go well with Homer last offseason but he still wanted to play. Maybe the year off helped. He could be a cheap veteran LW to play 3rd line minutes - sulshawn
I'd honestly rather check in on John LeClair. |

i read what you said a few days ago about your dislike for certain teams and why, breaking down team v. fans. I agreed with all of it, and wanted to contribute that regardless of any other reason, I enjoy watching the Rangers lose because of CSP. I don't really know why, I tend to like him off ice, but I despise him as a goalie. I always have. His recent behavior of acting like a soccer goalie (yelling at his players, being publically demonstrative) especially irks me. - wilsonecho91
i love watching him lose. there's nothing in particular that he does which bothers me...it's just the whole package. his nickname absolutely fuels my fire, and it's why i call him csp, and more recently king nothing. i don't care if it's not self-given, he's embraced it with the crown logo and made it his personal brand. and you can't sell me on a tre kronor reference to make it acceptable. that said, he's a perfectly fine human being, and as i said the other day, if he played for 25 other teams in the league i wouldn't give a flying (frank). i understand his frustration at this stage. it's a lather, rinse, repeat situation for him, and i don't fault him for yelling. goalies have to keep their emotions in check, they don't get the benefit of getting out their anger by skating all over the ice, hammering and fighting guys, while chirping at the same time. it eventually will come out. and there's something about europeans which makes this acceptable - perhaps a soccer related cultural infusion.i do it now all the time, because i'm in a beer league, and i don't give a poop. call it 30 years of eating emotion. there are times i want to skate out, take the puck from everyone, and just go bobby orr on all the way down the ice and go top shelf because i believe in my mind i could do that, as i'm furious with disgust at the incompetence of play in front of me. but i can't. so i yell. and hope to educate at the same time.
so, uh, back to the point, yeah, i love watching him lose, especially when he's actually playing well, and i don't feel bad about it. (frank) the rangers, and their fans, for all eternity.

so what would your feeling be if the dmen threw their sticks in the air or gesticulated when you let in a pooper or even just a regular goal? |

i would be annoyed by that. of course. i'm not saying it's right, just that i understand it.
and you also would have to generally assume that this type of reaction from a goalie is coming deep into the game, after many stellar saves while probably being hung out to dry. if i were HL, i'd have wanted to 2-hand mcdunnuh after his "backcheck" that let sutter score and break the game open. (frank)ing up a play executionally - ie, giving up a soft goal - is not from a lack of effort - it's a concentration thing. the lack of effort given is what makes us crazy. |

Just to pull it out:
"Paul Holmgren said this week one of the reasons Vincent Lecavalier struggled is because Peter Laviolette, who recruited him, left, and Lecavalier wasn't a fit in Craig Berube's system. Is there a trade fit now that Laviolette is in Nashville? Flyers would probably have to eat a good chunk of his salary, but Holmgren and Poile have a history of getting deals done. "
