That must have been a lot more awkward considering the complete mess the team was in when Clarke left. - Feanor
Man. That team was an effing disaster. Just an abomination on almost every level -- and they had a ton of injuries, to boot.
They were so bad, it was actually comical. One of the single-worst teams I've seen watching NHL hockey...ever. No kidding.

Think Homer was actually dealt a better hand by Clarke... aside from Gauthier and Rathje, most of the bad/expensive contracts were due to expire or were tradeable. |

Correct me if I'm wrong, but was Hextall even in-house when Lecavalier signed?
If he wasn't -- and I'm not certain, either way -- then isn't the only deal that the Flyers have cut since Hextall got here was MacDonald's? - AllInForFlyers
They also did the Downey trade...although that's not a contract, but still a deal. |

Clarke really mailed it in that last season or so... Kyle Calder? Mike York? Denis Gauthier? Nolan Baumgartner? Wtf man. |

I wish Hexy all the luck. He has his work cut out for him. We need some leadership, some guys that will play a complete game, and players that have a good work ethic. Once we find those missing pieces, then if we lose a game, at least we can say that they fought well, and took pride in their game. Passion, and skill. None of this "all talk, but don't show up on game day" business.
And that's the way the cookie crumbles.....

True, and a fair statement. Hextall was in-house.

Read and Raffl extensions were post-Hextall, too. |

Hatcher had two more years left at $3.5 million and Rathje had three. |

In retrospect, Clarke's moves were those of someone who kinda checked out. |

Read's was? Raffl certainly, since he just got here, but I swear this stuff just blurs together at some points. Was Read's extension cut over the summer or during the season?

Simmonds is a RW. It would force the team to move Simmer or Jake to LW.
Trading Hartnell would open up a hole and force the team to use the money saved to fill the same hole. It may be beneficial in the long run, but I don't think the team is going to get a great deal on a top line LW. They are going to overpay on years and dollars like they did with Hartnell. - PhillySportsGuy
I kinda liked the way B. Schenn looked on the top line LW with Giroux and Voracek in his limited time there.
If they could move Hartnell, I wonder if Schenn could benefit from being placed in a supporting role on the top line LW. Let him focus on buzzing around the net and in the corners rather than carry the puck up. Plus, with Giroux and Voracek, he won't have to worry about busting it back because he'll have two forwards more capable of back-checking than Lecavalier and Simmonds.

Was late summer, not long after Hexy got here. |

A possibility, but I still think B Schenn is better at center. When he's not with VL and Briere, he's proven to be an average #2 center. |
