Braydon Coburn - Mark Streit

Better (potential) top pairing? I figure this should be good for a laugh.

I understand but they aren't getting any younger. Guys don't get better with age. The skills will decline and power forwards as they get older struggle. If you can move him now while he is still productive then it is better then waiting till you can't move him at all

Galley was pretty good. Juhlin came in when they were a playoff team (94/95 was his rookie season...or at least his rookie card season)

Yushkevich was a tough bastard, I'll give him that much.

Fair enough. But I wonder if taking the pressure off and giving him two guys that can carry the puck would be beneficial -- because Schenn seemed to do some of his better work along the boards and from five feet outside the crease.

I could see him being quite good at finding that soft spot where Hartnell tees up for a one-timer and potting a few more goals.

That would certainly help capwise. Finding a 2nd or 3rd line LW rather than doling out the cash for a top line LW. Furthermore, that might allow Couturier to move up to a 2nd line role with Simmonds and Reid.

Lecavalier could probably be OK on a third line with a Raffl and another speedy type guy.

Just food for thought.

All this fretting over a second line center is for nothing. Laughton will be the man.

I might be in the minority, but I don't think our top line was a problem. G had 87 points and their possession numbers were very strong. I'm not saying they can't get better, but I don't think they should get rid of Hartnell because people feel he's overpaid.

I would like to see Schenn get more possession, two-way players. Perhaps, a line of Jussi Jokinen-Schenn-Akeson would look alright. Jokinen is strong defensively, Akeson is strong in puck possession and Schenn plays in front of the net and along the boards.

I loved Dale Kushner. The fact that dude made the NHL at all was by sheer force of will.

Then let's move Giroux before his skills deteriorate while his value's at an all-time high. Hell, Ghost is in his 20's, let's move him for some 18-year-olds. Can't have all of these guys in the lineup that will one day be old.
- jmatchett383

It is not the same comparasion. Hartnell is not in his prime and on the downside of his career. So is Vinny. Giroux is in the Prime. Also one is a more finesse player and the other is a power forward. You took the argument to left field to try and shoot down my point. So lets wait another year and try to move hartnell. and then another. Are his skills getting better. Everyone complained he was slow footed and cried when he slowed down the top line. Now i want to move him before he is really slow and we can''t do that supposedly.

By moving Hartnell, yes they wuold create a hole but with the way Hextall was talking I feel like it might be one step back next year to go 4 steps forward the next. He knows he has to move some money. Moving Hartnell and Vinny would start the process if possible. I am not saying it is a given but just what I took from it.
- J35Bacher

Hartnell will probably retire before his deal is over anyways. And his contract only has a moderate recapture penalty in the final year. I do not see what is so wrong with his contract...

His play is a steal for the money he makes.

There's no recapture penalty on contracts of less than seven years (according to capgeek).

So staying status quo is good for you. OK. I just would rather be proactive in aquiring a better piece or allowing someone young to take his roll. He has five more years on his deal at 4.75 cap hit. He is not retiring as long as he is making money. Guys don't just retire anymore. He will play out that deal here or for another team

SO you would like to have incomplete lines and useless holes in our lineup so we can give a valuable player away?

Over-35 contracts aren't affected by cap recapture, since they're subject to the full cap hit regardless. But that's all non-applicable, as the over 35 rules are based on the age at which the contract is signed.

No. I would't call Hartnell valuable anymore. I belive simmonds handles the net front on pp which hartnell used to do. They want to add more speed to the team. What is wrong with trading 4.75 Hartnell, if possible, and then maybe signing a Mason Raymond for 3.50 or 4 for three years. You get faster and still keep offense.

Of course all this is if they can move Hartell and Vinny which I know is going to be tough. Should be interesting offseason
