Good blog Colin.
I will be pissed if Bouma and Byron are not resigned. I think they should offer Butler a 2 year extension and see if he bites. Same with Westgarth and Colborne. I would also like to see MacD kept on. All these guys have worked/battled hard, and that is what MGMT has asked of them.
So, hypothetically, what could we get for some of our core veterans? Guys like GlenX and Wideman (IMO) did not really make much of an imprint on the team last year. To me they are expendable. If Cammy resign's (which I can't see happening) I think it is worth taking a look at what we can get for Huddler as well. Writting all this, I also understand we need to make the cap floor and these are some of our heftier contracts.
I know there is talk of speeding up the rebuild, but MGMT could hold onto these guys and try and flip them for decent picks in the 2015 draft, which to my understanding is a much deeper draft. This would also give time for our current wave of prospects to develop.
Go Flames!!!….I mean Bruins. |

Good thoughts. prety dry in the ole flames land right now. The biggest debate semms to be Bennet or Dal Colle at 4. There is also some discussion that this year might be the softest year to try and trade for that fist overall.
Cammy is likely to test UFA, from what I read he's been offered a decent contract and if nothing better comes up he can sign here.
the Glen Falls stuff is what he was hired for. I think we're fooling ourselves if we think Burke isn't doing the player stuff and Treliving is doing the grunt work with Cap, space, contract negotiatons etc.
President of Hockey ops= what we think a G.M. does. Make trades and talk players.
I will find it interesting to see what happens to Conroy now, if they are in N.Y., where he's from, they may ship him there permantly.
Aside from that it's time for them to listen to offers for GlenX leading up to trade deadline later this year. For his home town contract they will try to treat him right and get him to a legit cup contender. Butler was demoted a few times under Hartley so I think he's 4th round pick trade bait now. Colborne started to exhibit better traits as a winger and I think they'd like to see more, maybe have a penner on their hands if lucky. Speaking of Penner... didn't Burke say they wanted size?
I'm interested who they don't sign as much as who they do sign as it will tell us a lot of the direction they are moving.
P.S. New stadium announcment this year?? |

If they build it near downtown it would be cool if it could float. Any idea where they might put the new Stadium? Also good job on putting the Conroy connection together, I wonder if his family works on City councel! |

I can't speak for the Flames, but I'm pretty sure Mac T does all the trades for the Oilers, and his Assistant does the math. All our president does is speak for the owner and oversee the Oilers NHL, AHL, and WHL operations.

Nice cheap shot. That team is a mess...can't expect any GM, Mac T or otherwise to fix it a single season.think he needs 3 yrs minimum . |

My bad on the cheap shot, not trying to pick fights, but would expect similar treatment from your side.
I like a lot of the moves MacT has made, he has gotten things back in the right direction. I think in 2 years the Oilers will be a playoff team. I have a hunch he trades your first this year.
Not a fan of K-Low, IMO Tambo sunk the ship under his watch.

The ship was sinking fast when Tambo took control. What he added was layer upon layer of brick, cement and sand bags to ensure the ship wouldn't rise for a long time and not without some diligence removing those layers. |

Your not wrong at all. I liked K Lowe, but he didn't have the forsight to properly rebuild the team after Pronger left. Kept trying to patch it together with trades that didn't work out, offer sheets, etc, when he should have been focusing on drafting and development. Tambo inherited a club with no depth and even less talent....and did nothing to improve upon it except make 1st over all picks. Mac T has a tough gig ahead of him, but we are at least 2 years away from our D core/prospects being developed enough to get us to the playoffs. It's gonna take more time, but he can expedite the process by adding 3-5 free agents. |
