Niskanen because he's a FA and Phanuef is going to cost serious assets in a trade. - Feanor
Yeah, Dion was only a palatable option before he re-upped... if they're going the trade route, I could think of dozens of players I'd rather them go after before Dion. |

Yes, but if one of those assets is VL, it helps clear out some space. But the "plus" part of VL+ would hurt.
So, would you rather do Laughton+1st+cap hit for Phaneuf, or keep VL's cap hit for Niskanen and his cap hit? - jmatchett383
The one in bold please.

Dude, they're totally getting Shea Weber. This time, it will work! |

Well I suggested Rosehill, VL and a 4th rounder to Nashville for Weber, but for some reason Poile keeps hanging up on me. |

I throw guys like Byfuglien, Yandle and Phaneuf in the same group. They're guys I would keep my eye on, but I wouldn't trade a significant piece for. |

Here's my favorite:
"I can't explain it, but I just have a strong feeling they get Weber this offseason. It may not make sense, but I just feel like they will. It needs to happen."

I would take Dion over Yandle or Buff. Yandle gets basically zero time on the PK and I don't think you can have him and Streit in the same lineup, and Buff's conditioning is always a concern. Plus, I think Phaneuf has a better all around game than either of the other 2. |

Them getting Weber this year is about as likely as Lindros coming out of retirement to center the second line. |

No way, didn't you hear: if we played him all season long, we're a President's Trophy team. |

I would too. I just wouldn't give up much for him because of his cap hit and length of the deal. I would just look to see if they want to unload him. |

There was talk, but then Carl got involved and demanded a full NTC. Hexy is trying to limit those.
I hope the second part is true. |

IMO, just sit tight, make a minor addition (or two) for stop-gap right-handed puck-moving D, wait for the kids. They're still not within a stone's throw of the Rangers/Pens, much less B's/Kings/'Hawks. |

Isn't Toronto looking at the Western Conference if they decide to move Phauneuf? |

Most likely, they don't want this one to come back and haunt them. |
