ok good so all this crap i've been reading online doesn't mean much then
- 2Real

much of the problem (perceived) is that they traded down a couple spots from 22 (instead of up to get a stud safety) which was ok b/c they acquired an additional pick....but then they used their first pick (26th overall) to take a guy virtually no one had projected in the first round (many had him 2nd, some had him 3rd!). now they thought this guy's upside was too good to pass on (where have i heard that before?) and who knows? he has great size and speed so he might be this years' jpp.....i kind of like their draft but i know most people don't

The draft can play out in a variety of ways. Sometimes, things break the way you want. The guy you wanted fell to you or a guy you didn't expect falls to you.

The draft fell poorly for the Eagles. They were able to trade back and acquire a 3rd rounder (good value to move down 4 spots).

Pass rushers were flying off the board. Marcus Smith was not going to be there for their 2nd round selection. They absolutely needed a pass rusher more than any other position. They were 3rd to last in sacks per play.

The only criticism you can give is that they could have had Marquise Lee instead of Matthews. They could have taken Lee 26th then traded up for Marcus Smith instead of Matthews. Only time will tell which one is better.

In the end, this draft will come down to Marcus Smith. Will he be able to develop into a good pass rusher from the OLB spot?

Good assessment, of course it will be a couple years til we know for sure. I do like the WR they got in the 2nd round though.

He fits the scheme well. I dont believe he has #1 WR potential, but Kelly likes to spread the ball around anyway. Matthews is very good on those quick screens as a receiver and blocker.

Marquise Lee has a higher upside, but he doesn't fit Kelly's scheme as well. He's more of a traditional wideout. He's a very polished route runner.

apparently the eagles had a bad draft
- 2Real

Eagles draft other than the 1st pick is actually pretty good. The main issue is Smith probably would've been on the board 30 picks later, definitely 10-20 picks later. Tough to grade them high with the 26th pick a project. Although he does fit the scheme.

Nice scrum. Should be a Pen heading to the box as well.

But I continue to be impress with Dysin Mayo on D for Edmonton & could easily see him being a 2nd rounder in June

Here he is boxing out our own Leier (top of the screen)

Ever since the Rangers (frank)ed up on their PP (as usual) about half way through the period, it's been all Pens
