That would be trickier, because then, the salary wouldn't be as much of a concern - I am somewhat concerned about how much Timonen would be paid.
I guess, if I had to answer today, if that scenario was in play, I could go forward with it. Don't think Morin is ready, but if Alt or Ghost legitimately make the team, it becomes something where having Timonen in a reduced role might help, if Grossmann were gone. - AllInForFlyers
I believe they expect MacDonald to play a lot of even strength minutes next year as he get more acclimated with his teammates in training camp. In my scenario, retaining Kimmo and him replacing Grossmann there is really no skating loss and a better guy who can pass the puck being paid like a #5 d-man.
I'm hoping one of the young guys cracks the top 6 and is gradually given more responsibility as the season goes on. Also, on defense in general, I expect Mason to be even better next year. Am I being a homer? Perhaps, but he is entering his prime and going into a season knowing he is the clear cut #1 and I believe he embraces that responsibility. I don't think he will take it for granted.

For sure. Similar to Forsberg in that regard. - rockychocbill
Boy do I miss Foppa. At least to this 20 year old, he's probably THE player I enjoyed watching most.

mathematically, how badly did we get out shot with Lecavalier and Grossman on the ice together? I've gotta know. - SuperSchennBros
I'd have to do a bit of research, but both players had poor Corsi, Fenwick and associated stats.
Grossmann was on the ice for nearly 5% more shots against than he was on for shots for and Lecavalier was on for almost 6% more shots against.
Given Grossmann's role, it's expected that the team will get outshot. It's his useage. However, Lecavalier's usage is primarily offensive zone starts & against lesser competition and he's still performing poorly.
Both players had almost uniform affect on their teammates-Just about every player on the roster was on for more shots against when Lecavalier or Grossmann was on the ice with them than without them. |

Every series in the west so far has been really good I think. East is lacking overall, but the Boston/Montreal series has been good. |

I haven't noticed the reffing getting the way too much. A missed call here and there for sure, but for the most part I think they've let the teams play. There would be 100 penalties per game if this was the regular season. |

Agreed. Good to see the pens lose in epic fashion but I still hate the rangers and Habs lol.
So it looks like Malkins guarantee didn't work out did it? Not exactly messier. Lol |

I don't see a need for a tone of adjustment, especially for a team that managed to turn around a slow start. I would have happily have faced anyone in the East outside of the New York Rangers in the Boston Bruins. The Bruins and Rangers simply have our number. - SuperSchennBros
The trouble is, they faced the Rangers.
Notice something about the teams that "simply have their number". The Rangers. The Bruins. Tampa Bay. All teams that play disciplined, have a smart and aggressive forecheck and skate well for 200 feet.
To beat those teams, the Flyers need to get better at 5 on 5, which means they need to skate better and be smarter with the puck.
By and large teams that win the possession battle win the games...it's what the Kings under Lombardi have preached-possession, possession, possession.
It's what Detroit has done for years.
The Flyers were a flawed team that had a very solid season. Had Steve Mason stayed healthy, it's possible that they'd still be playing.
But to ignore those flaws is asking for trouble. |

Corsi is shot attempts for and shot attempts against while a particular player is on the ice. Otherwise known as shot differential. Teams that possess the puck tend to get more shots.
Not rocket science |

Yeah, I honestly don't have a rooting interest left in the playoffs. I dislike pretty much every team left. |
