No as a head coach. Hextall didn't hire Berube. Usually when a new GM is hired they get to pick the coach. This is somewhat of a different circumstance though as Hextall was assistant GM and may have had some input in hiring Berube.
Berube did a nice job turning the season around, but I'm not sold on him. I think he got outcoached by AV in the playoff series. - PLindbergh31
You could definitely notice some growing pains in Berube's game. He still has a few things to work out of his system and needs to learn to adapt a little better. Needed to make the change to put Raffl on the top line and move Hartnell down a lot sooner.
Edit: I wouldn't be completely against Barry Trotz as head coach though. |

I don't think he was outcoached. I think he was really limited in what he could do with the roster he had. Really had no one he could change on d and really no sort of instant offense/game changer he could insert into the forwards |

Yeah, its just fair to give him a full off season/season to show his stuff. He did get us to the playoffs after that horrendous start. |

Plus: Vigneault's a better coach than he gets credit for being. Yeah, he coaches the Rags now so it won't be long before I hate the very air he breathes, but his run in Vancouver was impressive -- Gillis overreacted by firing him, IMO -- and even his Montreal results weren't horrifying.
That dude just might be one of the better 5-7 coaches in the league today |

Leo Komarov is returning to NHL.
He would a solid 3rd line player who can bring the jam.
Was one of if not the best player for Finland.
Much better than a Downie. |

Eh, hes a borderline 3rd liner. More like a solid 4th line guy. This Rasmussen kid is way better. |

Rags took both series in 7 games, I'd say bylsma had more talent to work with. I think disco dan is an awful coach and is just as stubborn as laviolette at altering his style. |

Must admit I have not seen Rasmussen, but Komarov was great in Olympics and was solid for the Leafs in that series against Bruins. Making hits and defensively responsible. |

Common now... if they had shot better in the reg season (like they are doing now) I think they would have won the division, and maybe challenged for the first seed. They have a pretty darned good team all around. - Tomahawk
They sit back so much. I just hate watching them. They just wait for a mistake to be made. Montreal and Boston are much better defensive teams than the Flyers and Pens. I just see the Rangers having difficulty scoring against those teams.
Habs and Bruins both have good special teams as well. The Rangers PP came alive a bit, but I'm not sure it stacks up well against those teams.
The Rangers have won because they've had good goaltending and strong even strength play. They will now have to face another team with equally good goaltending and even strength play. The Habs and Bruins are better scoring and PP teams though. |

I watched about ten minutes of hockey last night, missed the rags Pitt game entirely.
I saw Bryz stop Patrick Sharp on a breakaway and thought I went to some alternative universe.
Damn shame about Minny losing.
Very fast team and fun to watch.
I think Yeo played the first two games in Chi all wrong (easy to say in retrospect).
They looked like they could have skated Chicago into the ground but sat back and played conservative at least the first two periods.
The Swedish guy sounds intriguining.
On general principles the more Scandanavians the better! |

Flyers remain the only NHL club since the decade began that has yet to produce a defenseman through the draft who plays significant minutes for them. - PhillySportsGuy
That's pretty interesting though..

The Pittsburgh beats are intimating that Lemieux and Burkle just might set fire to the whole thing, drop Shero, too.
The beats seem to feel -- and those guys are pretty connected -- that the beating that Crosby took from the Rags (which was exactly like what Giroux took, I might add) was completely unacceptable and that they might want a significant roster overhaul...but will likely keep both Malkin and Crosby.
Interesting. I've always said the worst thing for a franchise are expectations -- when you have them and don't meet them, that's about the quickest way to get your ticket punched out of town as anything. - AllInForFlyers
when you have 39.65 million tied up on 6 players you don't end up with a lot of depth. Nash has been very quiet but the Rangers depth has come through. The Pens can't say the same. same with the Flyers too really. |

Well not saying that we should rush in all our defense prospects, just thought it was an interesting tid bit.
edit: I didn't read the entire article, so if he is implying they put 1 or a combination of those guys in the regular lineup, then yes, wow... |

Don't we all agree here that the defense is overpaid? Having one of the young defensemen on the roster is a way to lower that cost. Timmy doesn't mention Alt (he's probably never heard of him) but I think one of him or Ghost have a good shot to make the Flyers out of camp next season. |
