No as a head coach. Hextall didn't hire Berube. Usually when a new GM is hired they get to pick the coach. This is somewhat of a different circumstance though as Hextall was assistant GM and may have had some input in hiring Berube.
Berube did a nice job turning the season around, but I'm not sold on him. I think he got outcoached by AV in the playoff series. - PLindbergh31
In a perfect world, yeah, I'd take Byslma over Chief right now. I don't think you can afford to upset the apple cart again w/ another coaching change, though. Chief's gonna be the guy who gets them transitioning to a sounder way of play, and he'll then probably give way to a guy who can get them over the top eventually. |

This one might be worse than yesterday's - PhillySportsGuy
The article started out fine, then went off a cliff at the suggestion that one of the kids should be on the roster next season, and that letting Kimmo go and chasing after Niskanen would represent a culture change.

As much as the beat writers ripped giroux for not producing can you imagine if we had Nash. - J35Bacher
I'm glad we didn't trade for Nash when that was out there. |

Indeed. Kimmo for one year at ~$4m is a lot less risky than Niskanen at 7 years, $42 million or whatever he will demand. |

I know! When they ask the culture change question to every new coach or GM, I don't think they realize what the culture really is. |

If Niskanen gets 6 mill a year I might piss myself laughing. That'd be pathetic. |

Yeah, apparently the Flyers are going to bat 1000 with the current crop... no Dylan Olsens, Cam Barkers and Anton Babchuks here... |

Yup, over the next decade, all three will finish 1,2,3 for the Norris each and every year. |

I will seriously be surprised. 5.5 is about as high as I go and I probably wouldn't give that; he's in the same echelon of D as AndyMac IMO.
This FA crop is pretty lame, mainly just depth guys. It could get interesting though, as a lot of teams still have their compliance buy-outs that must be used by this summer.

What I get out of it is "flyers haven't drafted a meaningful defenseman on the roster for 10 years so regardless of their readiness and ability, one of the three rooks will need to be thrown to the wolves" |

Yeah. I've been trying to dance around the topic because I know how I state things rubs some people the wrong way, and I know Timonen has many fans because of his tremendous service to the team.
But I am one of those people who is not certain he should be brought back, if he does want to play, and I definitely am concerned about his salary if he is brought back.
Just me, just my opinion.

Hopefully, the Flyers can lock him up. I prefer going the European route to the NCAA route, in terms of undrafted UFA. Seems there are more NHL ready guys, that make a bigger impact that route. - Jsaquella
that would be great. you know he'll end up in vancouver. |

I said it before the Pens series that I have this sickening feeling the Rags are going to win the cup this year. I know there are better teams left, but the feeling is just sitting there in the pit of my stomach. - funmaster18
