Regardless if you unload Vinny or not, Laughton comes up and your back to square one. We might even be worse off because we get even younger with Laughton coming in and with that comes the growing pains. Schenn should have saw full time wing even when he was playing on a line with Simmonds and Briere. Not much has changed in all three seasons Schenn has been a regular in the line up. I've tried to point this out many times as already but I think many think Laughton will come in and Sean Couturier with immediate 20 goal offense. - SuperSchennBros

i think the trouble with life in general, both on the ice and off of it, is that the growing old pains usually seem to start right as the growing pains finally cease.
not a whole lot of time in that sweet spot free of either. |

I'm not expecting that. I'm expecting 10-12 goals and solid two way play from Laughton. I'm fine with growing pains.
I'm also not against trading Schenn for defense or a natural winger who can play with Giroux and Voracek.

Rumor (strictly) from Pittsburgh has it that Mario recently (at some point during the Rags series) called Sid onto the carpet about his, say, less than mature approach to the game.
Any ring of truth to this?

i hope for his sake he gets an extended look on giroux's line. i think he has another ten or so goals in his stick to squeeze out per year.
and the dude literally gets 0 powerplay time to speak of.
hes like a dupuis with hands.
hes not a superstar, but there is not a single thing required from his position he is not at least decent at. |

Are Sean Couturier and Brayden Schenn's growing pains gone after three seasons? |

i saw a lot of stuff about social media how he was meeting with him and him alone in the locker room after game 6.
i dont know what the deal with crosby is. i really dont. its very concerning. but you dont trade him. its one thing to criticize and question. no player is above being looked at under a microscope, especially when it appears warranted.
but if people are like get rid of him, trade him, blah blah. they literally dont deserve to watch him play ever again. i know he was fairly insolent as a young player and whatnot, but never has he done so much as tip toe the line against a franchise that without him would likely no longer exist in its current location. |

If you can't see that B Schenn has gotten markedly better in his own end of the ice, I'm not sure what to tell you.
I would rather take growing pains than an aging broken back |

And this is fair to some extent but to me, finding your two way game as a young center is much easier said than done. It seems to me offense comes a little more quickly and a little more naturally then defense in the NHL.
Is it me but has Schenn started the last two seasons on RW with Giroux and Hartnell the psst two seasons? |

And if Schenn is still a Flyer, in that scenario, he'll be a LW with either Couturier or Giroux. - Jsaquella
i have a hard time grasping why some players struggle so much when at one position or the other. i know the responsibilities are different, but there's so much movement - they're all over the ice anyway. communicate, cover the open guy defensively, go to the net. it's not that hard. |

Schenn is more shifty as a young player but I don't think he's become markedly better defensively.
Is the word Markedly the new word of the day?
I personally can't wait till Claude Giroux turns 33 and everybody begins to turn against him. |

He's played with them, but not for extended periods.
Couturier had no issues with defense to start his career. Schenn has been the opposite. Laughton's history suggests he can be a solid 3rd liner. I'd rather go that route than struggle to fit a veteran in or bury a kid who needs to play on the 4th line.
Couturier finally got off the 4th line when Laviolette was fired and his game improved by leaps and bounds. |

I think in Schenn's case, he's over thinking things, instead of just going out and playing. |

Are Sean Couturier and Brayden Schenn's growing pains gone after three seasons? - SuperSchennBros
Seemingly not.
Coots seems to still be finding his niche as a checking center with some offense. The D is there, but he's yet to put the offense together.
Schenn looks like he's still feeling his way. As a center, he still has a bit to go. His consistency needs a little more work at that position as well as his ice awareness, passing, faceoffs...
At this point, I feel the team would be best served with him on the wing. |

I don't remember Couturier being on the fourth line during the half season but if he was, it was deserved. The only center who was lights out last year was Giroux. Briere sat iut hurt a lot, Couturier and Schenn were bad...period! |

I couldn't have said it better myself. This is the great debate. Schenn on wing or center?
If he becomes a full time winger, I think Lecavalier has to stay. Even if Vinny is crazy injury prone, you can insert Laughton. Laughton will always be an option. |

ive seen flashes from coots offensively that tell me the ability is there. its more of just a matter of consistently being able to put it together.
i think if you are expecting him to turn into a PPG center while still expecting him to constantly always draw the toughest defensive assignments, that will not happen.
but i think he can be that shut down guy while still netting 50 points a year given proper linemates. |

I think they need a power forward to play on that line. Read took a few shifts this year on the top unit and they did not look very good. Although it was in the beginning of the season when Giroux was not playing very well. |

Not sure that he's fast enough to play wing... he's not beating anybody to the outside. His shot is really wasted on the left-side, too. He's best cutting through the middle, or getting open for a one-timer on the middle-right side.
A lot of the same problems as VL, lol.
I feel like he's fine in the middle... just needs some quality help on the wing outside of Simmer. |
