They had 6 others who scored 20 or more goals. Goals are important, but so are other things, like possession of the puck, two way play, skating and speed...the bottom line is that almost every line or play had worse possession numbers when on ice with Lecavalier than without him. That's a really bad trend.
Whatever line he was on played worse. It's not just numbers, it's watching the games-Lecavalier was slow, ineffective and only showed flashes of ability. That's an anchor - Jsaquella
The Corsi is nonsense to me. The judgement of a player adjusting to a new team, new system, new teammates, new city, while battling three different injuries but still manages to pot 20 goals impresses me. Epecially if you can turn up your game a notch on the fouth line. Lecavalier scores 20 to stay with the younger and less injured Voracek, Read, Schenn and Hartnell. I call this being a vet and maybe even a warrorier.
Moving Lecavalier's 4.5 doesn't make our options that much more flexible. Truth be told moving 4.5 doesn't get us what we need. A number defenseman. Even if Lecavalier were in in the prime of his career, nobody is gonna simply hand over a Shea Weber, Zheno Chara or a Duncan Keith. There not out there regardless of what we do with Vinny.
What we want/need isn't out there.
I'm seeing names like Jussi Jokenan and Benoit Pouliot being tossed around to come here. Why would we want these guys? Scott Laughton and Jason Akenson have the inside track but again, they make us younger and I feel we take major steps back. |

frauds. lucic had one goal the whole series (or playoffs?) - an EN'er.
and for all the glory everyone throws on rask - and he's an excellent goalie, he's had a lot of big failure - 2010 against the flyers, 2013 against the hawks, this year against the habs. how did the bruins NOT get by the devils in 2012? 2011 was tim thomas. |

I'm not sure if it was the same game but, yes. I think the brawl came from retribution from a game later. |

I'm not calling for Jokinen or Pouiliot.
The problem with calling Corsi nonsense is that I'm also saying that it was obvious watching the games that the Flyers got worked when Vinny was on the ice. His lines were shielded and still got outshot & outchanced.
Yes, $4.5mm won't get them a Weber or Keith, but it also helps a rough cap situation. ...it also creates room in the future.
The 20 goals were impressive. The rest of the way he played makes me feel like they will be lucky to get a 3rd rounder for him |

How's this sound:
Kane-G-Voracek
Hartnell-Couterier-Simmons
Raffl-Laughton-Read
Hall-D. Moore-Rinaldo
Akesson
Jokinen-Coburn
Streit-MacDonald
Kimo-(trade for a cheap decent piece)
Gus
You could flip Streit and Kimo and or flip Couts and Laughton. Of course this assume Laughton looks good to go.
Trade VL and Grossman - jstross
You have to split g and kane

Pouliot is a 27 year old two way 3rd liner who gets 30 to 40 points a year. What team would ever complain about having that guy on their team?
We aren't going to get a teams #1 dman. But we need cap space. We can barely put a full team on the ice without moving someone. We need another quality Dman on our roster next year or we are completely screwed.
Vinny flat out sucked this year. He brought every single line down. And yeah, it might have been completely due to injuries, but by watching the games, you could clearly see that he just did not fit out there on the ice.
Vinny needs to go bye byes. |

if Vinny stays, he stays. If he goes, goes. I would prefer another look at this investment. I personally think moving him makes us look a lot like we did during the 2012-13 half season, which is bad. |

not the same game. it was from a previous game. and while brawl after brawl unfolded on the ice, he sat in the box for some lame penalty and didn't face the music.
the whole thing started with brashear protecting kapanen after getting harassed by rob ray in the corner to esche's left. i was at this game. just an epic situation of silliness. great fun though. |

Chaos. The whole thing wouldn't have happened if Havlat would have been man enough to drop the gloves.
Pretty much every incident like that is caused by a guy unwilling to drop the gloves and face the music. |

I disagree, because his play has been declining in each of the last two years. It's an investment, for sure, a bad investment. His name is more impressive than his game. He doesn't fit the system, is in decline & has missed 57 games in the last 4 seasons. |

it was havlat...i had to google just to make sure. said hitchcock after the initial slash to recchi's face: " Someday, someone's going to make him eat his lunch. This is something, in my opinion, that the players should take care of." i forgot about that quip. |

I absolutely welcome you to compare stats between Pouliot and Lecavalier and factor in games played the past five seasons alone. While your doing this, count up the amount teams both have played for too. |

Two years? We had a half season last year. A lot of stars who normally play well during a full season were bad. |

Should I look back 5 years? Most of those "stars" who had bad short seasons rebounded...Vinny got worse.
Lecavalier is an aging player, he's going to be 34. Not a lot of guys rebound after two bad years at that age. I mean if were gonna look back at what he did at age 28 and think he can do it now, that's foolish.
Bottom line, Lecavalier is older, has sub par speed, isn't good defensively, routinely sees his team get outshot & outchanced when he's on the ice, routinely drags down the level of play of his line mates and doesn't fit the system the team has adopted.
He's a limited player, with a bad contract on a team with too many guys like that |

Same. I probably like him a little more than you, but wouldn't pay significant money for him. I would pay $2.5M at the absolute most. |
