I don't think Thorty is re-signed, Lucic goes nowhere he might be a bonehead but you don't replace the positives he brings. Marchand I'm ok with trading, I'm done with his sideshow to be honest.... He's becoming more annoying and less productive.
Marchand could get a nice return I think esp if packaged with a Kelly/McQuaid/Bart - MrBeanTown
Marchand on another team with a captain that can mentor him could be a pretty good move - something is failing with him in boston - can you imagine if toews was his captain? That poop wouldn't fly
He put up 25 this year - potential to hit 30 |

He's a great player I just think he's run his course at this point in BOS... 2 horrible playoffs in a row and his pesky nature is starting to now just become a penalty waiting to happen every single shift |

I think the target on his back got bigger after this series - national exposure to his antics - could prove detrimental next year picking up PIMs |

Thanks for the kind comments, guys.
On the Marchand topic, I really wouldn't move him. He's still part of the best PK forward duo in the league in my opinion, and I like his game when he's driving the puck up ice and creating lanes for his linemates. Based on the comments from PC/Julien today, it sounds like they're going to try and reel his agitator role back a bit and have him focus on what's made him a legitimate top six weapon. Here's the thing for me: You look at this stats this year and you're like 'Wow, those are solid.' Then you notice that he really didn't play on the power play at all this year. When he finds his groove, his even-strength game borders on elite, in my opinion. |

Montreal won game one despite giving up 51 shots to 30 and had the Bruins won it it would have been B's in 5
lets not get too crazy here, lots of good teams...its a fine line
If LA wins the cup are you gonna backtrack |

If game 2 was a night start - would've been Habs in 4 |

This isn't a "slow teams don't win" blog. I think heavier teams can and do win. I just think that it's a fairly obvious lack of speed on their roster and inability to handle speed as a defensive group that's leading to disappointing postseason finishes for the Bruins. |

Great blog Ty.
I mean no disrespect but I never understood why Boston would trade a kid like Tyler Seguin. Sure the players they got in return are doing fine but the B's had speed demon. His potential is through the roof! I don't understand what could have happened to warrant is departure, he's 22 years old. He finished 4th in scoring this year. In the whole league!
Montreal, Detroit and Tampa don't have that young elite center to build around that everyone is looking for! You have to finish at the bottom of the league to have the chance to get a guy like him which Boston didn't do and they got rid of him!
Why is everyone in Boston sticking their head in the sand? I'm still upset with this trade and I'm a Habs fan. Imagine!
Why is Charelli not held accountable?
This is a trade Boston will regret for a long time. |

On the Seguin thing, there are a lot of sort of intangible stuff that's tough to get into. He had some personality quirks they weren't huge fans of, and I've been told by multiple people that they weren't really crazy about the company he kept in Boston (he hung around with a lot of the Boston University kids). There were nights where Seguin would allegedly leave the Garden after a game, go across the street to the Greatest Bar, go behind the bar, and pour drinks for his buddies and him 'til the sun came up.
In a world of social media and what not, the Bruins were not crazy about that.
Especially once they committed all that money to him.
I spoke to Chiarelli during the draft last year when the trade rumors first started swirling and asked, "What do you expect these rumors to do for Tyler?" And he flat out said, "Wake him up." This was a pretty serious thing, they thought.
Now, on the ice, the Bruins and everybody really believed that Seguin's true value would be as a centerman, and with Bergeron/Krejci locked in for the long haul, there was simply no way to give him the minutes he needed to blossom in that role, especially with Kelly/Campbell/Soderberg in the system.
But yeah, I agree that it's tough to bail on a kid for being immature when he's barely out of his teens. |

I don't think they need to regret much though, as they didn't pay a overly high price to get him. I'm not slamming Kessel, it has nothing to do with the asset they traded to get him, I'm just saying it's not as big a deal as say, the Oilers giving up on Taylor Hall, for example. That would likely cripple the Oilers (insert joke here) but the Bruins have been able to move on just fine. Sure, they lost a series, but they will still be contenders next year. They are a deep franchise, they will be fine.

I just feel they didn't get enough in return. Would have Krejci gotten a similar return? |

This seems to be the general consensus
The question I have is how much of how Marchand plays falls squarely on Juliens shoulders?
I figure if a coach didn't like the way a player played they would straighten him out or sit him - MTL1
Agree. This is why CJ pisses me off.
Marchand was playing so INDIVIDUALLY all about him that it drastically hurt the Bergy line.
Marchand is a BIG liability and NEEDS TO BE TRADED.
He try's to stick handle around three players instead of sticking to Bruins hockey 101.
GET THE PUCK DEEP FORWCHECK AND WEAR THE D MEN DOWN!
Simple concept!
But it's too often all about The Rat Faced Killer. Jackass really pissd me off this year!

id rather have thorton than carron,... Or barkowski. Our forth line player that gets 7 minutes a game isn't the reason we lost. - 77emac77
Twice this yer he stepped over the line and put the bruins in the cross hairs of the NHL community.
I personally feel that the PK water incident gave the Habs life.
He is an ass and felt too comfortable that he could do whatever he like and it hurt the TEAM as a whole.
Too old and the drop off was obvious this year.
Let him go. |

They got a decent haul...it mostly hinges on Morrow's development, but Eriksson is a very good player, and it looks like Smith and Fraser will be decent players. If Morrow develops into a top 4 D-Man then its a good trade. Boston has lots of time to draft and develop a replacement Center for Krejci or Bergeron. |

I think the speed thing is being overblown a little bit. Sure, they would certainly benefit from adding some quicker players, both in forward and defense positions.
But, really, I look at how they played in that series, especially games 6 and 7, and they just weren't moving. It wasn't a lack of speed issue that I saw, they just weren't skating.
And at their best, the Bruins do a good job of limiting opponents' speed, they shut down quicker teams pretty well. Also, they move the puck well and quickly--they can be very quick in transition. But those are two things they didn't do well against Montreal. I certainly give Montreal credit, they did a good job giving the Bruins issues, but I also think some of it comes down to the Bruins just not playing well.
I'm not saying you're wrong concerning the Bruins lack of speed, and they can certainly improve in that area, I just don't think it's as big of a deal. I mean, this seems to come up every couple years about how the Bruins need more speed, and yet they seem to get along just fine without. |

Eh, I think it's important to look big picture here. I don't think the NHL is abandoning this playoff format anytime soon, so I mean, you're going to need to go head-to-head with these teams every year. It's not like when we whined about the lack of speed against Carolina in 2009. It's like, here to stay this time. |

Tough to read too much into a game 7 loss. It really could have gone either way with a bit of luck, a save here, a bounce there. The Bruins are a great team. A few changes here and there and they'll be right back in it. |
