I don't see Hextall signing Jokinen. It sounds like the last thing he's going to do is overpay for a veteran UFA winger. - BiggE
I'll agree he probably won't without moving a body or two first, but I don't think well be completely inactive in FA.
There's a ton of good depth players to be had, and Jokinen is a very versatile top 9 forward that I think would fit great here if we trade Vinny/Hartnell.

The other plus with that lineup is it really helps their cap situation going into 15-16.
The benefit from the new Can TV deal will effect the cap that season and barring an economic meltdown, you will be looking at ceiling of over 75 million. And, if you are looking to clear more space, Grossmann will be going into the final year of his deal and should be tradeable. Also if Ghost and/or Hagg are ready by then, they can either try to move Streit if he is agreeable, or, if he's not, buy him out.
A buyout of Streit after 14-15 would cost them:
15-16 2.458 million
16-17 4.208 million
17-18 958k
18-19 958k
While the first 2 years are painful, if he's being replaced during those years with a dman on an ELC, its really not that big a deal and would actually save them cap space in 15-16. - BiggE
If you really wanted to -- and I don't think they should, but they probably could -- with the season he had, you could move Streit now.
Again, not saying they should. But if you wanted to sell high, Streit really did have a good season this year.

Possibly, but extremely unlikely as he is most likely going to be running the top pp unit. |

Yup
My guess is that he is here for 2 more years and then gets traded or bought out prior to the last year of the deal. |

If Hexy goes the UFA route to address some needs this offseason, I wouldn't be opposed to looking into these guys if the cap hit/contract length is reasonable:
-Niskanen Pitt (Defenseman- Age: 27) 10 G 36A 46 Pts
- Stralman NYR (Defenseman- Age: 27) 1G 12A 13 Pts
- Mason Raymond TOR (left wing-Age: 28) 19G 26A 45 Pts
- Vanek MTL (left wing-Age: 30) 27 G 41 A 68 Pts |

Niskanen and Vanek are not going to come reasonable. They are the best players available at their positions. Plus the cap is going up. GMs are going to throw stupid money at them. |

Agreed. Raymond is interesting to me due to his speed. Definitely looking at more depth signings than big names like Vanek |

Richards, carter and Williams lead the kings in the first period to a game 7 victory. Unreal. Good for them though. Hopefully in the next couple of years we will get our turn. - funmaster18
Those guys really stepped up their games last night.
Richards probably had his best game of the playoffs.
It doesn't bother me a bit as a Flyers fan.
I still love Richards and will be rooting for them against Chi.
J Will with 12 points total in 6 game 7s is pretty incredible.
Nice gesture for Teemu at the end of the game by LA too. |

Some people wouldn't mind seeing a move made to shore up defense that would maybe involve Brayden Schenn, and I understand that -- I'm not dense. It makes sense, in some ways.
But when I look at the forwards the Flyers have, the forwards that we need to do things in order for this team to get better and challenge for the Cup...I just don't see how we do it. We don't have the replacements in they system to just dump Schenn's 20 goals and 40 points, at least not yet. - AllInForFlyers
Yeah, if you listened to the way people talk, you'd think the Flyers were actually deep organizationally at forward, or even at center. The cupboard is bare all over, and none of our kids, no matter how impressive their years were, are anything close to a can't-miss.
Can't be trading good young top-9 forwards off the current roster... even to shore up the back end. You'd just be trading one weakness for another. |

Same w/ AMac... if you can get some young stud prospects/high-picks/young roster players in return for those guys, you have to explore it. It's counter-intuitive, since this team needs help on the blueline, but the aim would be to turn Zhitniks into Coburns. |

Schenn needs a good bridge contract and a couple more years to mature into a solid, physical, 2nd/3rd line center putting up 50 to 60 points per season for the next 10 years or so. Becoming a beast on faceoffs would be a nice bonus, and definitely something he could do if he worked at it. |

Yup, my thoughts exactly on young Schenn.
A two year "show me" deal sounds right.
He is close but not quite the ideal #2 center at the moment.
I'd love to see him take the next step.

I hope he does. If we can just have a solid draft, fight through this year, maybe catch a break and see improved consistency from Schenn/Couturier (as far as points production, because obviously, Couturier does other things that make him valuable)...I just would rather do that and see where Hagg and Ghost are for 2015-16.
It's a work in progress, and there will likely be stretches where I'll be moaning for somebody to put the effing puck in the net. But a "step back" year isn't horrifying if they get Hagg and Ghost a good year of development and maybe snag a scoring forward in the draft who can maybe crack the lineup, or look like he's going to, relatively quickly.
But locking this team into a ridiculous FA deal, with how weak this crop is...just stay away from it.

I'd make one exception... and it's a name I don't see bandied about very often... Joni Pitkanen.
Any news on his recovery?
If he's good to go, it would be hard to find a better value legit top-pairing minute muncher than him, coming off missing a year and all. Of course it would be risky, but hopefully that would be offset by a very short term contract and a reasonable cap-hit. |

The only reason it's doable is that in trading a youngster from up front to address defense, you can more easily find a solid winger for cheap in FA than a solid defenseman...unless you are patient and wait for a Hainsey or Gilbert to where they'll accept a cap friendly deal(i.e. pay cut) to stay in the league. |
