Chicago was simply the deeper team. - johndewar
There's a lot of guys that played during that run for us that aren't in the NHL anymore (or shouldn't be... Leino)... and there's a lot of support guys on that 'Hawks team that went on to be top-pair, top-6 guys on other teams.
It was definitely a bit more David vs Goliath than it seemed at the time. |

They were, but people don't always want to give Carter the credit he deserves for playing with severely injured feet.
Yeah, he missed the open net. We all saw it. And he had flaws.
But he has more character than he gets credit for, sometimes. He was trying to gut it out.
I think Richards was gassed -- that was just a damn tough matchup. Toews and Hossa and Sharp are still a load now. Think about how brutal it was facing those bastards when they were four years younger. Hossa alone...that's just some tough, tough sledding against a team like that. - AllInForFlyers
Carter will always have my respect for playing through the playoffs with the injuries he had. The two broken feet, the messed up knee, the separated shoulder.

Offensively the Flyers were very deep. It was a bad third pair and goal-tending in which the Flyers were not the better team. |

Still one of the more severely underrated hockey players of our time... that guy literally does everything stupendously well. - Tomahawk
Totally agree -- just an amazing player. Makes everybody around him better, still gets his 70-80 points, plays amazing defense for a winger, works hard, goes to the net.
People who say wingers don't matter as much...I just don't believe that. The right kind of wingers are amazing. |

And if Lundqvist missed that last step off the bus and fell creating a domino effect resulting in several broken legs, the Flyers could still be in this. - Streit2ThePoint
7 game series, one goal difference
One team with their # 1 goalie for whole series and one without. |

He's probably going to hit 1000pts and maybe 500g next season... can you believe that? |

Personally, I'm glad to hear it. Again: He maybe has some flaws. I tease about them, sometimes. But he really does deserve more respect for that playoff run in particular, his character in general (Columbus trade notwithstanding) than he sometimes gets.

The Flyers had a heckuva run that year, but they weren't as deep at the Hawks were then or now. |

5 points from 1000.
46 goals from 500.
The guy has been a consistent performer from the very start. Only ONE minus season in his whole career, playing for the Thrashers. |

I hope the Flyers don't fall into the same trap the Leafs fell into last year.
They took Boston to 7 games and thought they were closer to being a contender than they really were.
The Flyers are not one or two players away. |

Absolutely -- because he's always been good. When he and Kovalchuk were on the same line in Atlanta, that was a devastating line. The Thrashers were the worst drafting, most poorly run franchise of the modern era, but if they had ever gotten those guys a real center and some depth...things might've been different down there. They might still be there.

Totally agree, I know Hextall wants to " patient" but he already has a team that could be 3 pieces away. Keep it going Hexy!!! |

I remember our top 4 being gassed by the end of that series. If Emery doesn't suffer the hip injury and the Flyers acquire Mez at TDL, I think we win that series. - PhillySportsGuy
The franking Olympics that year. And on top of Canada using Pronger 30 minutes a game... |
