Agreed. That said, some team will go, "That's the veteran leader that we want to build our team around" and pay him.

I was not alive for either cup unfortunately. My dad tells me they were two of the best days of his life. I hate how Flyers fans seemed to be divided. The fans that embrace the past and the fans that seem to hate it because they feel like hanging on to it is somehow causing the Flyers to lose in the present.

Flyers fans should be proud of that team. It represented this city perfectly. The fact that a lot of those guys are still around has nothing to do with the Flyers winning or losing.

i was alive, but just about 2 and 3 years old, so i missed it. i didn't discover hockey and the flyers until age 7 (on my own). i'm both proud of their past and HATE the fact that i've never seen them win a cup in the 34 years i've been a fan and more than ready for another champion. the bullies will never be replaced. they don't need to be. but there needs to be another chapter in the story besides tragedy and near misses against dynasty teams, often due to injury. i don't see the "hanging on to it" as a causing of the current status. not at all.

The irony of the Flyers dreaded "culture" is that when they were winning those Stanley Cups and going to three straight Final series, they were among the most forward thinking teams in the NHL.

Built by Keith Allen & coached by Fred Shero, they drove innovation.

Now, under Hextall they seem to be joining the new wave of innovation a bit later than some, but early enough where they can position themselves well for the future. Hextall has seen the importance of building through the draft in LA. The importance that skating has, the importance that being a strong possession team can have.

They Flyers have been a successful team over the years and simply haven't reached the mountaintop. What Hextall is bringing is more a return to the foundation of Flyers hockey-strong two way play and hard work, skating hard for sixty minutes a night and controlling the game.

The Bullies stuff was simply the chrome on the Cadillac of the Stanley Cup teams. They certainly used intimidation, but they were also a highly skilled team with three future Hall of Fame player among their ranks.

The Flyers killed it a week ago. We're just voices in the desolation, echos if you will, of a season laid waste.

nah. i was over in the rangers group trying to defend my comment that facing backups in series 1 and now series 3 certainly helps their cause. they're offended, as if i'm somehow saying the rangers are lucky and are not a good team, which is not what i'm saying at all. i'm saying it's an easier path against backups than starters. simple as that.

no they weren't. they were a goon squad, pure and simple, and won by literally killing their opponents. don't you know that?

If they end up making it to the finals and facing flyers west, it would make a lot of sense for this to happen

(frank) them. they embody team in every sense of the word, and i commend them for that. they are also disciplined and extremely willing to sacrifice for their team. so for that, good job.

that being said, they are still just an extremely average team in terms of overall talent. and yeah i realize what it says about the pens that they flat out embarrassed them.
