Read the words "before the draft..." - EKolb13
His contract ends at the end of June, right after the Hawks season ends. Why would the draft matter in whether you sign Iginla? Sniff around and if a deal can be made, sign him on July 1. What good is it to sign him earlier? |

What about Iginla?
The guy has moved to two different teams in the last 15 months or so looking for a shot at the Stanley Cup, and can't get into the finals. Boston has over $4 million tied up in performance bonuses that will go against the cap next season (mostly belonging to Iginla...), that's not going to help the Bruins next season.
I know he's not a true center, but he did play center for a while a few seasons back in Calgary. He's also made over $78 million in career salary, so if he really wants a cup, salary shouldn't matter to him at this point.
I'd love it if Bowman would reach out to his agent just before the draft and sniff around to see if he'd take $2 million with no bonuses for a bonafide shot at a cup? If he would, I'd trade something to Boston for his rights and get him locked down for a season. - EKolb13
I was just thinking about this the other day. if he wants a shot at the Cup what better place then here. Zuz took 1 million for another shot perhaps Iggy might as well.

Loved me some Burish - Ogilthorpe2
I was trying to find some of Burish's smack talk the other day. He was awesome. My favorite part of the Carcillo hit on Carter was the way Carter looks up at Carcillo after getting nailed like, "dude, what the (frank) are you doing?" haha. |

Whether he legitimately fell because of the hit or not, it was still a weak call. Though, if it puts an end to the after the whistle BS I'm good with it. - Ogilthorpe2
as much as everyone complains about the call, i dont think most people consider that maybe the refs made that call to send a message on the ice that the shenanigans arent going to fly.
Bettman might have told the refs to cut out the post whistle crap from here on out |

Giving up a pick in a weak draft isn't the end of the world. Or, maybe someone like Rundblad or LeBLAH to obtain his rights? |

I think that might have been Doan?
Even if it was him, Iginla is 37 now. He isn't going to carry a team on his own to the cup. Why not settle for a role like this and ride it out for a real shot at the cup? |

Diving is another area of poor rulings. They only call diving with a penalty on the other team. If without the dive there would be no penalty on the other team, the "diver" should still get two. Just like with suspensions, the league does not really want to end diving; because it could do so if it wished. - mohel

If you are going to flop that was the perfect time...1st game....1st scrum and while the play was dead. Bollig was smart to do so and it almost looked like there was a stick near his one skate.
The flopping during live play and acting has gone to another level.

Yeah, I am glad to be back. Not that I don't enjoy hanging around in nice weather getting loaded on all the booze I can drink and staring at topless European women on the beach, but I can't do that forever. I have enough poop to do around here.
Like getting my last wisdom tooth pulled this morning, and burying one of the cats this afternoon.
Well, at least tomorrow should be better... |

Wouldn't be the first time I was wrong, but I'd think they'd want a natural center. Maybe they bring Regin back, but they have just Toews and Kruger. Smith and Shaw strike me wings who can play the center position. Iginla isn't one either, and at 37, not sure he would want to be one. |

Everything is an asset, and you don't give up an asset unless you get something back of equal value. And there is zero benefit to trading for the rights of a guy who is a UFA in a couple weeks anyway. So giving up an asset (any asset) for zero is less than smart.
Iginla has already had a talk with his agent about planning for next year, and both know where he's like to go and for how much. If the Hawks are not on that list he won't sign here even if the Hawks have an extra week or two of "exclusive" negotiating time. If there is a deal to be made with the Hawks, the extra time means squat.
A pick in a weak draft could become Andrew Shaw, my friend. |

Only way Lablanc gets dealt is if someone owes Bowman a big favor...
My guess is he ends up overseas.
No one will want to pay him $575,000 to play in the AHL and he isn't good enough to play in the NHL.

From the Kings board:
I was encouraged by their play given the short turnaround after two brutal 7 game series, as well as the fact that it was a noon game against a more rested team. The NHL essentially did everything they could to give Chicago the upper hand in this game, so I didn't expect a win.
That being said, they're going to need to come out with a vengeance on Wednesday if they want to win this series. They'll have some time to rest, but you know Chicago is going to play a really strong game, so LA needs to be better than them. If they can do that then I like their chances in these playoffs. If not then they could be in trouble.
