Yep, Minny media STILL lamenting about Hawks puck luck and how the Wild "out played" them and could have won the series. Pathetic really! I was happy with how the Wild showed in the post season, no regrets except for how embarrassing our local media and fans have been with the woe is us attitudes. - MnGump
Reminds me of the phrase:
Morale victory is just a euphemism for a loss. It's still a loss. |

Good point JJ. From a Minny fan perspective who read the same stuff after every loss, I think it's simply a way of trying to spin. Makes fans feel a little better about losing and helps them hold on to any hope left over.
ps. I think Crawford having possibly his best post season EVER doesn't exactly hurt either. But as you alluded to, it's the team and system itself. It's like a machine. Aside from a few major cogs or components it's a machine of similar working parts. A part in the machine breaks down it's simply removed and replaced by another fairly uniform part so that the machine never quits running.
Sort of a crude analogy, but I'm not that clever, so cut me some slack! - MnGump
Not a bad analogy, except it doesn't account for the parity of the league. All NHL teams are— relatively speaking— "well-oiled machines", so replacing one cog with another might make an almost imperceptible difference, but is still the difference between winning and losing a 2-1 game.
Players such as Toews, Kane, Keith, Hossa, Sharp, Seabrook, Hjalmarsson and Crawford are much more than replaceable cogs, but an assemblage of unique, elite talents that have been able to rise to the top, even in relation to the other elite talent dispersed throughout the league.
Athleticism is more art than science, IMHO.

I was just watchingSportsTalk Live and they asked a reporter from LA how Sutter and his players felt about yesterday's game.
He said that they liked their performance and felt like if they were able to bear down on a few opportunities they could've just as easily won 1-0 .
If Kane hadn't scored that overtime goal in game 6 we could've won the Cup.
If the Hawks didn't score 2 goals in 17 seconds we could've won the Cup.
- kissthecup22
2-1 maybe, not 1-0. The Kings didn't really have any quality chances in the first, that I remember anyway. If Toffoli makes that open net instead of hitting the post, who knows how that game ends. He missed though, I have no idea how, and it ended like it did. I get Sutter's point, but at the end of the day it doesn't mean poop. |

Didn't see this posted anywhere yet -- heard it on the radio and found the link. Nik Hjalmarsson was cleared to talk today by the doctors and this is the 2+ min video to that interview. Some really great lines in it but this one was best (at about the 2:17 mark), Hjalmarsson:
"The doctor said 'don't talk unless it makes you money'."

Garthe just said Miller will get at least 4 years @ 6mm per year
I really should thank him for giving me such a good laugh. Philly would have done it but they seem happy with Mason, lol. I hope some team does overpay like that for him, helps every other team in the cap era. |

That wasn't a direct quote from Sutter I'm pretty sure that the reporter was paraphrasing him.
I liked Sutter when he played here and still enjoy his news conferences. He always seems to build up the opponent like they're unbeatable. I loved his comments on the new goaltender for the Ducks "He's the best goalie I've ever seen"
Anyway I've given up on trying to figure out who "should've" won any game that we have played this year. Seems like every game that we've won, the other side feels like they should've beat us and yet we are 9-4. |

Hawks missed on a couple of prime chances too. You could play "What if?" games all night. |

You can, and it gets you nowhere. It's typical Sutter though. He cracks me up, so I'm ok with it. |

My original post was back on Page 13 Glenman -- I didn't expect folks to leave the video link in when the post was quoted and the original link had some autoplay setting I couldn't find/change.
I went back and edited my orig post and the new link doesn't autoplay (at least it did not for me). However, that won't fix anyone that quoted the orig post or later that had that autoplay in there. |
