easy competition? he was matched up against giroux and crosby the first 2 rounds. and his offense is lacking for sure, but in terms of strictly defense, he's a solid and tough as they come in this league. he can play 25 minutes a night against the best players in the world and shut them the fck down.

Hjalmarsson would be top pairing on just about every team in the league except the one with Keith and Seabrook.

And before you get your panties in a wad, I happen to think those 4 guys are very good players. But the margin between Keith-Seabrook and McDonagh-Girardi is pretty fair sized as of right now. McDonagh is still going to get better. And I will even be generous and give a slight edge to staal over Hjalmarsson. However. He and Oduya play the toughest competition for the Hawks. And they are the 2nd pair.
