Burke was an awful G.M. He knew he was coming to Toronto, so he instructed the interim G.M. to trade all kinds of picks to move up, to select Luke Schitt. One of the worst picks imo. Guy was just terrible.
Goalie evaluation? Burke has never had a clue as to what a good goalie is, only reason he won a cup was a decent goalie stood on his head in Anaheim.
Looking at that team he inherited and NOT seeing the first or second pick coming to Toronto, which he traded away for a very good one way player, but missed out on either Hall or Seguin? Insane.
No had no use for Burke.
He came to Toronto with no blue chip talent in the minors. He left leaving us the same way. There are no franchise players anywhere to be seen on the Marlies.
Apart from our first line and Rielly and Gardiner and Bernier, the whole team should be traded for picks. And since Kessel and JVR will be too old to follow the plan, they should be traded as well if we are blown away with a trade proposition.
Detroit fluked out with two picks, so don't throw out Detroit comparisons. Zetterberg and Datsyuk were complete flukes. If they weren't, the Wings waited six rounds knowing no one else had figured out their talents?
And Kadri might be our Yzerman? Only in stick skills. Kadri might have even better stick skills But Kadri skates very badly, and uses all kinds of tricks with his body to cover up the fact that he cannot really dig down low on his skates because of a poor genetic body he was born with.
NHL teams still have NO clue as to what makes a great player thank god, so we do see gems in later rounds. Hip strength and lateral mobility are what it is, not how fast some fool is without a puck going straight forward.
Toronto's greatest weakness? They have never finished last overall. Never. They just dull our minds with lousy to mediocre seasons. I am close to becoming a permanent Chicago fan. For years anyways. Love Kane, best player in hockey now. |

lol, I though his size would add an extra dimension to their game, would you prefer they re-signed Raymond?

first off, they're not the only 2 good players Detroit has ever drafted. secondly, obviously Detroit didn't know that they would be HOFers but they obviously saw something in them. you don't know how highly Detroit had them rated. Detroit could have had them rated as second or third round talents. but if they knew that these guys weren't on anyone else's radar and that they'd be around later, why reach?

Hawks fans are real fans like us, we survived Ballard, and they survived Bill Wirtz, so my guess is they don't want bandwagon jumpers any more than we do.
