Stastny will be fine, he will make 6-6.5M and he is still decent for what he brings. Callahan will be overpaid and decline. Vanek is lazy, niskanen will be overpaid for finally doing something relevant at the age of 27-28 where he is up for a new contract... hmmm tried hard to get a big pay check perhaps

And New Jersey had crap wingers, which is why he got a lot of PP time. He isn't as good of a fit in Toronto.

Sometimes patience is the key for things like that if we are hoping on free agency but other than that you gotta make trades to acquire guys like that. Like sure i was excited for clarkson, sure alot of people were, for the intensity he brought to the devils but for that price tag.... 750K more you arguably can get a stastny who brings alot more to the table than clarkson and easily slots into the 1st or 2nd line not the 3rd line...

Why not? JVR is clutch in playoffs, hossa is clutch in playoffs, hossa is 35 years old JVR is 25 years old, JVR has lots of time to improve himself to get to a higher level like a hossa and has the potential to do so. Could easily be a 70+pt guy especially if a guy like thorton or Stastny is centering him

We keep coming back to offense. The problem is defense - not just with the defensmen. Everybody forgets that defense starts with the forwards and ends with your blueliners. If the forwards don't defend than your defensmen have almost double the responsibility. How about we get forwards that can play 200ft rather than put ALL the onus on our defensemen.

if leafs didnt buyout grabovski after signing him to a 5 year 5.5 mil contract that would have been smart, you know, maybe just get a 7th round pick for your 50+ point center playing with 2nd/3rd line players.
