Which reminds me....
Besides Bure, have you seen anyone faster than McKinnon? Holy (frank) - Giroux_Is_God
Used to love watching Pavel Bure skate. Nothing better in the sport that I've ever seen.

Didn't the Flyers tank in 2006-2007? Flyers had 56 points, the team with the next fewest points was Phoenix with 67.
To think the only thing the Flyers have to show from that embarrassing season is Luke Schenn. That's enough to make a billy goat puke. - PLindbergh31
yeah but they picked probably the weakest drat of the decade to do it in....according to some this is the deepest nba draft in years...its all about the timing. |

All of these players will get qualifying offers, IMO. - bmeltzer
Will the Flyers still send a QO to Gus?
What about Tye McGinn? |

Not worth it at all, imo
McGinn, maybe for around the same price, no more than 900k |

The thing about that season -- which makes you laugh or cry -- is that they didn't think they'd be that bad.
I know. Hindsight says they were CLEARLY awful.
But they didn't really know they were that awful, heading into it.

They stunk in 06-7 but I don't think it was a planned tank job like the Sixers pulled this year. |

I think McGinn will get one but will probably stay in the AHL. I doubt they send anything over for Gus... But you never know! |

He's definitely up there... Grabner might be the only guy faster... dude gets like 3-4 breakaways per game but he can't finish on any of them, lol. - Tomahawk
Yeah man his hands are terrible. The speed and skill combo that McKinnon has is something you hardly ever see. |

He'd have to really drop a turd in camp for that to happen, I think, especially with cap-space being at such a premium, and him not being waiver-exempt.
And Erixon wouldn't be a lock to make the team either, though... that's the thing. - Tomahawk
Correct. There is no lock for either to make the roster. But I am ok moving a forward for a dman where the dman could help us in an area of need. |

That team was one of the worst teams I've seen since I've been watching hockey. Just bad in every way imaginable. The fast guys were soft, the tough guys were slow, the good players were hurt...man.
Just AWFUL.

Definitely didn't tank.
They were horrendous that year because of the lockout, which transformed the game. We all know that big slow lumbering defensemen get lit up in "today's" NHL...they had a team full of them.
06-07 was a direct result of a pre lockout team trying to compete against post lockout teams. And it didn't end well. |

True. Thinking back to that team with the Geoff Sanderson's, Kyle Calder, Mike York's, Randy Robitaille,'s of the world how could they do anything but suck?
Nittymaki was 9-29-9 with an .894 save %.... Holy poop....
Parlaying that type of season into a third pairing defenseman as the end result is pretty hard to do.
Edit: Randy Jones, Freddy Meyer, and Petr Nedved also on that team. |

You don't hear it said very often, but we need depth at forward just as bad.
We actually have good prospects on D... Erixon would just join Alt and Manning as one of the 'closer' ones. Behind Laughton is a sea of nothing for miles. |

He's up there for sure
Some other guys who could really fly:
Yvan Cournoyer - played with Montreal in the 60s and 70s
Bobby Orr - best pure skater I ever saw
Paul Coffey
Glenn Anderson
Sergei Federov - BiggE
See I don't remember Federov enough, and didn't see any of the other guys play... |

But moving Akeson is not making a hole you can't replace. Dman are harder to come by and if it is a RFA for RFA i would do it. |

Go back and look at video from the 97 Stanley Cup Finals. You'll see plenty of Federov. |

Man, I remember watching those games -- I still watched 75-plus -- and just looking for ANY signs of hope. Anything.
Then, Homer pulled off Zhitnik for Coburn. And you knew there was at least hope.
