No because, contrary to popular belief, he actually has some offensive talent. I mean, the guy led the QMJHL in points per game for 2 seasons. I'd rather him try to bring that out, especially when he might end up being our #2 center this year when all's said and done. - jmatchett383
Sorry, not because I don't believe in his offensive ability, but because he would be so good two-ways and he has the size/reach for it.
Of course, this is all assuming that Laughton is every bit as good as we think he might be. |

Definitely true.
If he had played more like a selfish, glory-hounding wiener, he probably would have put up some ridiculous numbers. - Tomahawk
The dude was winning Selke's when he could have been winning Art Ross and Richard (if it existed then) trophies if he wanted to. |

Take away the "Out of shape" part, change "legs" to "feet", and that's Peter Forsberg as a Flyer. - jmatchett383
Sad, the way it ended -- he bailed on them. I understood it, because he knew his career was likely over, but the captain definitely didn't go down with the ship on that one.

Didn't he win a Selke and an Art Ross in the same year? 93/94, I think? |

Best skating edges I've ever seen... his footwork was ridiculous. And it was like his upper half and his lower half were independent of each other... his legs would be churning and his upper body would barely move when he had the puck... and those hands.

How did he bail? The Flyers wanted to trade him at the deadline, and they got a good return. |

And when the time came he destroyed the Red Wings salary base. For all the great thing he did on the ice I'll always remember him as the biggest @$$ when it came to contracts.

Basically, for you younger fans, Federov was Datsyuk with better wheels, more size and grit, and perhaps even a bit better defensively. Hands down, he was one of the best all around players to ever play the sport. - BiggE

You're off by 10 mil. I believe it was 38 mil for one year including a 12 million signing bonus.
Eidt: we're both kind of right. The contract was worth 38 but he only made 28. He played 43 games that season. |

Fedorov was one of the best, most dynamic players I've ever seen. Imagine Pavel Bure with better passing and a fantastic defensive game, who was able to "pull a Kapanen" and play defense if needed. - jmatchett383

Didn't the Flyers tank in 2006-2007? They had 56 points, the team with the next fewest points was Phoenix with 67.
To think the only thing the Flyers have to show from that embarrassing season is Luke Schenn. That's enough to make a billy goat puke. - PLindbergh31
Without checking the actual stats, I thought that team actually played better the last 20 games of the season than the rest of it. It looked like by the end Richards/Carter were "getting it", etc. Even before signing Briere/Hartnall/Timonen, I remember there being some momentum from the core going into the next season |

Momentum from season to season is a myth. Just look at last season. |

From what was reported back then, he quietly wanted out. Before Homer pulled off the most miraculous rebuild I've seen in hockey, remember, that looked like it was going to take years to fix.
Not saying that the Flyers didn't recognize the value of the player, but he did want to move on, as well, from what was reported. |

I was wrong anyways. They were just as bad at the end of the season as they were during most of it upon looking at the numbers. Had a 10 and a 9 game losing streak with a 3 game win streak sandwiched in between at one point. Pitiful |

Stolarz in goal tonight to save London's Memorial Cup hopes.
Gu looked unstoppable. I'd be surprised if they laid back and didn't take the opportunity to eliminate their rivals here at the end of the round robin. |

Just to belabor this further:
First 48 games: 11W 37L
Final 34 games: 11W 23L
(I'm counting OT losses as losses. You lose you lose.)
So technically they were…. ok they were just bad. The whole time.
While we're critical of today's team, it's also good to remember today's team isn't that one. |

Someone please help me with this:
As I understand it, there are 4 CHL teams that get to play for the Memorial Cup: the OHl champion, WHL champion, QMJHL champion, and host city (assuming they're a non-champion, then the 2nd place team goes as well). So, there are 4 teams, and they each play a 3-game round robin schedule.
When I go to the OHL website, I read, "The Val-d'Or Foreurs clinched a berth in the MasterCard Memorial Cup Semi-Finals with a 4-3 double overtime victory over the Edmonton Oil Kings on Tuesday. "
If there are only 4 teams...wouldn't all of them make the "Semi-Finals?" Or does the top team get a bye to the championship, and the 2/3 seeds play a semifinal while the bottom seed is out after 3 games? |
