Just to belabor this further:
First 48 games: 11W 37L
Final 34 games: 11W 23L
(I'm counting OT losses as losses. You lose you lose.)
So technically they were…. ok they were just bad. The whole time.
While we're critical of today's team, it's also good to remember today's team isn't that one. - eayost
Some of those late-80's/early 90s teams were pretty bad too...although that season was just abysmal. |

That's like pointing out a zit on Kate Upton. - johndewar
He was a great player but holding out half a season and signing a 38 million dollar offer sheet is a bigger deal than a zit on Kate Upton's back side. Then after winning three Cups than going out in the first round to the Ducks he turned down 10 million a year from the Wings to bolt to those same Ducks for less money.
He's one of the all time greats but he wasn't flawless. |

You have to imagine that he didn't go through all that trouble to defect to leave any money on the table... probably sick of a lifetime of not getting paid what he was worth. |

So I have a hypothetical and just curious what people think. This year is not looked at as a great draft but 2015 is the draft everyone wants picks because of McDavid and Eichol. Florida is already saying they would trade the number one pick. Would you deal your 1st this year and 1st next year(hoping it's high because you made playoffs) to move to number one overall. Maybe add in B.Schenn or something else. You could select Ekbald or a player like Bennett or Draisaitl. Ekbald becomes a solid d men to pair with morin, ghost and haag. Or guys like Bennett and Draisaitl can possibly play on your wings now Was bored and just thinking about it. |

Someone please help me with this:
As I understand it, there are 4 CHL teams that get to play for the Memorial Cup: the OHl champion, WHL champion, QMJHL champion, and host city (assuming they're a non-champion, then the 2nd place team goes as well). So, there are 4 teams, and they each play a 3-game round robin schedule.
When I go to the OHL website, I read, "The Val-d'Or Foreurs clinched a berth in the MasterCard Memorial Cup Semi-Finals with a 4-3 double overtime victory over the Edmonton Oil Kings on Tuesday. "
If there are only 4 teams...wouldn't all of them make the "Semi-Finals?" Or does the top team get a bye to the championship, and the 2/3 seeds play a semifinal while the bottom seed is out after 3 games? - jmatchett383
The round robin is set up so that the team with the best record goes straight to the final (Geulph). The teams that finish 2 and 3 play in the semi finals so with their win last night Val d;Or qualified for the semi finals. If London wins tonight they tie Edmonton for third and they would play a tie breaker tomorrow to go to the semis. If London loses than Edmonton goes straight to the semis in a rematch with Val d"Or. |

Gotcha.
Still not sure how Edmonton lost that game. Also not sure exactly how to pronounce Val-d'Or (I'm guessing like Caldor, but starting with a "V" not a "C"...or maybe there's a silent E somewhere). |

Would I trade the #16 (is that right) this year and a first next year for the #1 overall this year? Tempting, but probably not. Even with Ekblad, there's no counting how the defense will play (assuming he makes the team), and the line combos at 5v5 were pretty poor. I'm not sure the Flyers will be better this year. I wouldn't add anything major at all, maybe a player like Cousins, def. not both 1sts and B Schenn. Again, Ekblad is not Seth Jones, he's more like a Nurse. |

I gotcha. I think Ekbald is better then Nurse. I also like Bennett. I was thinking if you can't move Vinny then you move schenn and the picks and take either Ekbald or Bennett. The line really wouldn't change too much. 5v 5 |

I'd never consider moving Schenn to keep Vinny. If I can move Schenn for a dman fine, but never with any consideration to Vinny. |

It would be a lot more economical to target #3 from Edmonton and take Draisaitl, or Ekblad if he's still there (possible). |

I'd be ok with that. But i don't think Ekbald will be there if Florida stays at number one. I think Buffalo take Rinehart so Bennt and Draisatl could be there but then it brings guys like Dal Colle, Kapanen, Ritchie and Nylander in to the discussion as well at 3 |

Yeah but at least the 90-94 had guys like Brindamour, Recchi, Lindros etc.. They were bad, but not pathetic and only missed the playoff by a couple of points each year. The 06-07 squad was just utterly unwatchable. |

Their pick is #17 and even if they offered, I doubt Florida takes the 17th and next years pick for 1st overall. |

I would offer both Schenns and our pick to any of the teams with top 2 picks. Hextall stressed wanting to have a knockout 1-2 punch at center and strength down the middle. I would love to have at center:
Giroux
Draisatl
Couturier
and I would then make Laughton a winger. I think both Draisatl and Bennet will both be better players than B Schenn and to get a player of that caliber, I'm fine with adding the older Schenn and the 17th pick to the deal. |

I actually think they will be better too. I like Bennett alot. They compare him to a Doug Gilmore. BUt I wouldn't be sad if they got Draisatl. |

Problem with any of these kids, is that none of them are locks to step right in. Even Ekblad. So it would definitely be a move for the future, not now. |

Well what do you want? it might take a step back to make this team better. But more and more players are stepping in right away these days. |

There were only 6 last year and all but McKinnon had up and down years. 8 if you count the Sabres poorly thought out experiment with their two young Dmen. |

Might be best just to stay put and let the Flyers do what they do w/ their 2 picks. |

Someone's gonna have to explain to me in really small words why I've sat through three years of Brayden Schenn developing, so we can trade him, so I can watch Sam Bennett or Leon Draisatl spend another three years developing, on the chance they MIGHT be better than what Brayden Schenn is likely going to be as soon as this season, if they get him another winger? |
