At Stones age Stewart put up 28 goals, around the same amount of games Stones played in his career.
- ClarksonDavid

I'm not sure why you're comparing goal totals to number of games played?

Only way I'd support a Stewart deal is if we send Greening and Neil back the other way with Prince.

That way Stewart can take the roles of both, be our fighter and "gritty" big guy who can't actually play hockey well.

If they could purge even one of those two contracts, I start listening to a deal for Stewart.

Stewart is in a contract year. Sabres should and will keep him until the deadline

Buffalo could use the cap hits of both and get Prince.

For Stewart.

Color me intrigued.

Stewart is a great trade if Greening or Neil go the other way. Helps get to the cap floor. Is an excuse for management to say that they tried to put together a winner this year when the underlying numbers suggest that all he'd do is help Cave for McDave.
He comes off the books next year and then Ottawa has a game changing prospect. As Spatso would suggest, that makes Ottawa look mighty attractive to the highest bidder.

Greening is bought out (hopefully)
And you can keep Stewart....he's a huge step back for this organization.
If Murray trades for him, I will publicly apologize to tuna.

Neil isn't going anywhere...this team would start getting physically bullied around.
Stewart can stay in Buffalo, we don't need lazy players on this team...we already got our fair share of that last season. McDavid on the other hand is a franchise player.

quote=Travis Yost]I'd sell my soul for Kane.
But who does he play with? I know we're dreaming but it's hard to imagine a scenario where that occurs and Ottawa still obtains another center (as they are too cheap to try and snag a Grabbo type on a 1 year high-salary deal). If anyone has heard an update on Zibby's "condition" I would love to hear, but I'm not sure he's ready for the Turris experiment on the 2nd line, or first if Turris were hurt.

Technically we are overwhelmed with centers (Turris, Zibanejad, Smith, Da Costa, Lazar) take your pick. Like I said before I'm still not sure trading Spezza is the right thing to do for this organization, but I don't see why Spezza, a pick, and a mid-prospect (Puempel) can't get us Kane. TBH I think he's overrated, and apparently a hard head.

I think thats asking a hell of a lot for kane, there is no way we trade a ppg player a former first round pick and another draft pick for kane.

If the sens were after kane I would think the jets would want stone coming back in the package because he is from winnepeg.

I would love to have kane but not in that deal

As a Jets fan I say let's do it! Kane is overrated, can't pass, can't get along with team mates, is a massive head case. The guy has one move and that is trying to beat the defensemen on the outside than taking a bad shot which normally misses the net and then going around the boards and falling down. Your soul must be pretty cheap!

Furthermore I think Kane hit his ceiling 3 years ago when he had 30 goals. The guy will always be potential and never be anything but that! However if Ottawa is dumb enough to offer us a good package for him I would gladly take it!

Are you serious? I do that deal in a heartbeat.

You're forgetting some descriptors in your post, let me fix it:

There is no way we trade a 30 year old, point per game player with one year left on his deal, a former late first round pick who hasn't played an NHL game and another to be decided draft pick for an early 20's former early first rounder who has years of RFA time left, is signed to a good deal and has already scored 30 goals once.

Now it sounds a little silly, doesn't it?

I think so. Too many people are looking for Ottawa to make a good hockey trade. Better to think about what makes sense from a franchise value perspective. Yesterday, the Citizen presented four trade possibilities including all the usual suspects (St. Louis, Anahiem, Nashville and Florida).

Far and away the most intriguing suggestion was Spezza (plus) for the #1 pick. So, you could see something like Spezza, Hemsky (rights) and Methot for the #1, a prospect and a salary.

Florida has a new owner who wants to accelerate the competitive process. They have solid goaltending with Luongo and they want a playoff presence. Ottawa wants to be lean and attractive to the possibility of new investment. A young team with a bright future and a clean set of books is far more compelling than a team that has tied its future around aging players on long term deals.

I understand it. But, it does not mean I agree.

it would suck to see him traded within the division, but for the right return, i'd be okay with it.

#1 pick + kulikov

for

spezza + methot + hemsky's rights

Certainly Hemsky's agent would be on side with the deal (no state taxes in Florida).

Kulikov is problematic. Wants huge increase. They also need to resign Gudbranson. But Florida would need for Ottawa to take a salary (Upshall)

If Murray did get the #1 overall pick I have no idea how he would use it. But, you wonder if he would be open to moving down.

Ya. Stay clear of Kane. All the talent in the world, but a loose cannon. He may need a coach to snap some sense into him, but I wouldn't be willing to loose a Spezza plus other pieces to see if Mclean can do it.

With a young team you don't want to bring in a player like Kane, I don't think he's as bad as he's made out to be but our leadership group isn't strong enough to mold a player like him who still has a level or two to go up to in his game. He could easily be a 40 goal man and tough as nails on the right line.

But if I were Chicago, St Louis or Detroit, Boston, I'd be all over this guy.

Murray also throwing Maclean under the bus couldn't help this season with a player like Kane if things go sideways. Undermining your #1 leader was just a stupid move by Murray - he did it at the 75 game mark by questioning if Maclean would be back and let in longer in the press without backing him, and he did it at the end of the season by calling him out in the communication and leadership department - stupid move.

All the trades possibilities in the article were sort of garbage. Nothing of significance or promise coming back. I guess Forsberg is he exception, but I am not sold on him. He hasn't worked with 2 NHL squads already. Red flag to me right there. The Florida deal is intriguing, but I don't see them moving the #1 pick for a guy with one year left on his contract, but you never know. They will likely want to have a 1st included in a deal coming back, but lower in the draft and we simply don't have that.

This is a tough one. They said the same things about Seguin, and look how that's turned out for Dallas. Kane is very young, he probably just needs to mature.

Unload Greening for Stewart... Parallel move, I guess, depending on throw-ins and details. We really need to replace Greening with a good possession guy though, to help out Smith. Neil's not going anywhere, and he is what he is. This 'should' be 4th line, minimal minutes.

I'd like to see Da Costa back up. He was very good, and appears to be getting better. However it was a pretty small sample size.

About Spezza... well... Still on the fence with this. I agree with the consensus that if we can re-sign him for 3-4 years, it would probably be worthwhile. I don't think he'd agree to that, so you gotta listen to offers. Either way, I get the feeling that he's going to have a really good 14/15 season.

that's pretty easy. he addresses his glaring need on defense, and takes ekblad, who many suggest is already NHL ready.

I think everyone would agree in taking Ekblad, but if you could get him at #3 or something, you might want to try to move down while grabbing another later pick or player.

I still maintain though, it would be hard to get Florida to trade their 1st overall in a deal where they didn't get another 1st in the same draft back. That's just my instinct. If they aren't getting another 1st back, they will likely want a prospect back. If we are going to have to make a "bigger" deal if Spezza is moved, I'd like to see Murray try to snag one of the bigger names from St. Louis.
