Wouldnt it make sense that Despres could be the one looking for a trade? He could be considered a "significant player" and I could see where he might be looking to go to another team where they would actually let him play.

Prior to Shero getting canned, it wouldn't shock me if Simone did ask for a trade. With one half of the old regime gone and DB on life support, I would assume he would be open to stay and becomes part of the solution. If management and HC remained status quo, he would be dumb not to ask for a trade because he wasn't valued.

If I was SD, I would sign an offer sheet with a team where I knew I would get top four time. That may get Pittsburgh top potential trade return as well.

I don't think anyone would offer him top 4 time or money as an RFA who hasn't played much in the NHL.

he hasnt gotten the chance to show it, but im a believer in his game. id love to get to rely on him in top 6 minutes on a relatively cheap show me RFA deal.

No one is offer sheeting him... We see like what, like one offer sheet every two years.

He has things to work on, but I like his game too. He needs to play, instead of rot. This last year didn't do anything to help the cause.

I agree that he should have played more in Pittsburgh, but playing top pairing minutes in the AHL isn't exactly "rotting". I can't think of one player who was hurt by staying in the AHL too long. He's lucky that he was waiver exempt, or he likely would have rotted in the press box.

Edit: The lockout contributed to it, but he's played more actual hockey games in the last two years than any other Penguin defenseman.

What is the going rate for a young defenseman who didn't get an opportunity to play for his organization much and sat and rot in the aHL after having a pretty significant prospect resume? No one will sign him to anything much - that is an offer sheet. Reilly Smith is an offer sheet type, not Simone Despres.

he definitely has things to work on. he was a lower first round pick based largely on his physical skill set. those kinds of guys need time to work on their game. i know the horse has been beaten to death, but id still look to do the same this year. there is no reason he shouldnt be a regular on the bottom pair, with second PP duties sprinkled in during the regular season.

You don't have to convince me. I'm a Despres fan. A guy that big that can skate needs multiple opportunities. I always thought he looked descent when he was in the line up.

That is something they should be strongly considering, whoever "they" are.

They won a cup with this core

You guys... Shero didn't get fired by accident.

The Edmonton Oilers traded Wayne Gretzky.

It's a business guys. Stop getting butthurt when I look at your team from a BUSINESS standpoint.

What you have will not work moving forward.

Its amazing the amount of stupid you have provided to this thread. Your grammar is horrible, you cant spell to save your life and yet the utter nonsense you speak somehow made you sound even stupider. I think you deserve a hearty congratulations!

I don't know.

I do know, however, that Oneonta is going to print off Tessier's and frame it in his house.

We already have Neal if youre looking for someone to take stupid penalties and get suspended.

They, meaning the Pens. I would much rather offer sheet a young proven kid (albeit one pro season) than wait for our first round pick four years down the road to potentially make it. Might be worth the risk.

The defender market this summer, headed by Niskanen and Andrei Meszaros, is pitiful. Adding impact D may mean offer sheeting players; it's not as unheard of as it once was.

If they were willing to swap straight up for Neal I would do it in a heartbeat. If he turns out to be the same guy he's perceived to be now we're in the same position we are today with Neal.

If he becomes happy with the change and engaged we have a young, tough all star winger to grow with 87.

I just don't see the downside in a situation where the guy he would be replacing is Neal. I also don't see why the Jets would make that trade so it's probably a moot point.

Kane is fine, a lot of the BS surrounding him is because of race, but nobody will admit to it.

Jets would be making a big mistake moving him, if they do I hope it's the Penguins on the other end of that mistake.
