Schultz gets a bridge to prove hes worth big dollars.
I wouldnt pay him more tham 3.5.
Maybe 4 max if he signs for 5 years.
Petry'll get a raise, but he aint earned more than 4 either.
Schultz 3-3.25 for 2 years.
Petry 3.5-4 for 4 years. - hugefemale dog77
Schultz SHOULD get a bridge. MacT has crazy unwarranted love for the guy. Long term deal for unreasonable money |

I don't think he said unreasonable money that I saw. He said either bridge or a long term deal. I think we just expect unreasonable money per year. I'd use roman Josi as a comparison, then give him less since Josi is a better all around defender. |

The whole organizations hard on for Shultz is pretty unwarranted. He sure hasn't lived up to the 1st overall money contract we signed him to. If anything he deserves a pay cut from the 3.75 ELC he received. |

I think he'll get a bridge at 3.5. Its more money for him as on his ELC he did not get many bonuses. 3.5 would actually be a huge pay increase for him in real money. |

I agree, I was probably most disappointed with him this year |

he got abit steadier as the season went on I thought.
still has that penchant for defensive miscues in our zone, but imo, he got better.
he's got fantastic offensive instincts, but probably wasn't prepared for the defensive minutes we threw at him from game 1. not to mention the pressure he faced once teams realized he wasn't ready.
put him beside a steady defender and keep him off the top pairing and I think he could turn into a huge asset for us |

Karl alzner would be ideal. Washington is starved for D too though. |

Matt.... Is this the best you can ever do as a Oilers Blogger? Please read the other posts and try to get an idea what fans want to know, certainly not that prospect dribble that you seemed obsessed with. |

3.75/2yrs. I don't think he is a 4M player yet but he is making strides. 2 years to give the team a chance to sign UFAs on the short term where he can keep making an impact and then can hit his big contract.
Jultz gets a contract pretty much similar...He needs to take a bigger step forward in his defensive game. So bridge him with a 3.8M/2year deal. - OilHorse
Oilers D suck all around... Give the (frank)ers 700k each... If they don't like it, they can go play in the ECHL or some sh1t. |

Ummm....not sure what you're on about but there is absolutely nothing relevant going on for the Oilers right now other than the Oil Kings being in the Memorial cup. And Moroz is an Oil prospect on that team. So this blog is relevant to the situation today... |

Honestly, in hind-sight wasn't drafting Yakupov a mistake? His game is not translating to the NHL, He looks like he could be another Nikoli Zheridev, or Nikita Filitov. The unfortunate thing is that the Oilers got seduced by his flash, yes he was concensus #1, but the Oilers did not need another skill winger. Now they may not even have an NHL player, skilled Russians that don't get top six especially on one of the worst teams usually go to the KHL for tax free money and better more familiar life style. |

Not that I can see.
He had the worst 2nd season of the three 1st overalls, and the 2nd best rookie season. Note that Hall had the 3rd best rookie season among those three and now he's arguably the top young LW in the game. |

his game translated fine last season. Growing pains, terrible puck luck, and Eakins didn't help his game at all this year. He'll bounce back the same way the sedins will, pal |

And in related news, for some reason the Oilers front office en mass is at the Oil Kings game tonight.
Are you guys excited to waste a second on Edgars Kulda or Dison Mayo? |

The Oilers deployment and development of him is a (frank)ing shame. "We have a guy that could be Kovalchuk, but we don't want that because he needs to learn to play more like Ethan Moreau!"
(frank), why not try and turn the kid into Steve Staois? |

Young player is not 100pt player by age 20. Trade him
Yakupov is younger than like half the Oil Kings roster. You know, the junior team that will be lucky to have 2 players turn into legitimate contributors at the NHL |

It's as if they didn't know what kind of player they were getting. "Yakupov seems like he plays WAAAY better when he has the puck on his stick than when he doesn't. Should we get him some linemates who can go to the net and create space for him, or should we try to turn him away from a possession oriented player?" |
