From this statement:
"But the reason they're winning Cups now and not in Philly is because in LA, they're the supporting cast." - MJL
See here we go with you and the technicalities.
So, in hindsight, what I should have said was "In Philadelphia, they were relied on by the organization to be THE guys. To lead the team to the Cup. In LA, they're not, and that better suits them in my opinion."
THE guys on that team are Doughty, Quick, and Kopitar. Everyone else is the supporting cast, or complimentary pieces. Lombardi brought in Gaborik, Richards, and Carter to build around those three. That's why I call Richards and Carter the supporting cast.
Supporting cast =/= downplaying their roles

Wildwood's not bad. There's a group of guys at work that go to a few of the bars in town and it's usually a fun hang. Gets too crowded in summer, but it's better than Sea Isle or Avalon. - Jsaquella
I mean let's be honest...every island gets too crowded in the summer.

Absolutely. I just prefer Wildwood. It's a more fun crowd and much more entertaining to people watch.
Avalon is basically The Princeton, and Sea Isle is Wildwood with a snotty attitude, in terms of summer folks |

Ive met him. He's a very nice person. He's still a very good player too. He's a wet dream for fancy stats people. - PhillySportsGuy
i'm sure he's a lovely person - i was talking about on the ice. again, i'm probably inventing something that isn't there. |

Generally yes, but I have kids and kids like the rides and crap at the boardwalk.
We do usually end up in Cape May because it's closer. |

Lancaster area for the win.
If there's traffic on a main road like 501 or Fruitville Pike, you can just take the back roads and be the only car on them! 55 mph it is! - Giroux_Is_God

It's not a technicality in my opinion. Richards and Carter are top players on that team. And were also when LA won the Cup in the past. They're not supporting players, they're top players on the team. Richards has taken on a different role this year, and is sacrificing offense to do it. But LA doesn't win without those two, in my opinion. |

The biggest issue here is, these island towns have every damned inch of space jammed with rental properties, food places and tee shirt shops. You get a 5 bedroom duplex in Sea Isle, the area it takes up in terms of ground space is the same as a normal house. But each family staying has 3 or 4 cars, bikes, wave runners, etc.
Hell go to the Wawa in Avalon, NJ. People literally just stop their damned cars and go into the store. it's ridiculous - Jsaquella
i grew up at the shore. but not that shore. monmouth county. asbury park, long branch, deal, bradley...it gets crowded in the summer but not like that. belmar turns into a poop show but nothing like it is down in your neck of the woods. i couldn't handle it. i'd literally end up in jail. |

Richards is definitely a supporting player at this point in his career. You can make a case for carter being a core player but I still don't think he holds the same importance of quick doughty or kopitar |

Yeh, but you guys have Lucy
The farthest north I usually make it in summer is Ocean City. We have friends that stay there with the kids and the kids like the boardwalk there.
We'll usually hit AC two or three times a summer, but it's almost always for concerts or dinner, rather than beach stuff or even boardwalk rides. |

Yeah, I hear ya. We have no kids, just a pooch, and the pooch seems to be cool with hangin by the pool too.
We used to take my nieces to the beach and boardwalks when they were little, but almost always on a weekday. Kept em by the pool on the weekends, much easier that way. |

I think that is worded incorrectly, but the main gist of it is right.
Here in Philly they were THE go to guys.
In LA they are part of the bigger picture.. With guys like Kopitar, Williams, Brown, etc. etc. Carter and Richards are not the 1-2 guys.
EDIT: WAYYYY LEIGHT |

Richards plays in all situations for LA. PP, PK, and ES. Carter is a top player and a very important player on that team. |

I hardly go to the casinos. I'll go down to cape may to visit friends. It so much quieter there. It must be like a really small town in the winter |

I used to spend at least a month here in summer as a kid, and I never really intended to live here. I figured I'd stay in the Cherry Hill/Collingswood/Haddon Twp area, but my wife had residency requirements for work, so here I am.
It took a good three years to adjust, now I really enjoy it most of the time. But the holiday weekends are awful. A lot of that is due to work, too. |

It's hard when people make weekend visits. When they stay for a week or two, we do the islands on the weekdays and BBQ at the house on weekends. |

We probably have different views on supporting players. |

The only time I spend in the casinos is when I have to walk through them to get to the restaurant or seating for the shows. The last time a did any betting was during a guys night out with my father in law and two brothers in law. Spent the day fishing, had dinner at one of the buffets, then played blackjack for a few hours. |
