Sign Moulson 3-4 yrs at $6MM. Trade for Versteeg 3 years at 2.2MM
Keep developing the recent picks in the A. - ImThatGuy
No thanks.
Overpay the likes of Scott, Conacher, D'Agostini, Foligno and Ennis to reach the cap floor to guarantee a last place finish so we can get this franchise on the right track. |

I don't know if I'd go that far, but any additional contract over 3 years should be looked at like cancer by this organization right now. |

No, Never. I do not want him on this team anymore. No slight at him as a person, he just cant play hockey.
Overpaying Ennis and Foligno is a bad move since they are younger and will be looking for longer term deals. |

Even signing Moulson, trading for Versteeg, and not having Scott and Conacher this is still a bottom 5 team. |

Look for Ennis to sign in the 6 for 30 range and Foligno in the 2 for 4 range.
Just a hunch. |

I hope. So far we've gotten worst case scenario out of all of our possible scenarios. Top chance to win the lottery-didn't. Miller had to either re-sign or get the Blues through 2 rounds, didn't. In fact all he had to do to give them the confidence to resign him was get to the second round and look good doing it, still didn't. Isles have a top 5 this year, they keep it. We should call it #buffaluck |

If it were Regier in charge i could see this but we don't know what Murray's MO with contracts are. I'm not knocking Darcy by the way it's just that it seems he was the kind of GM that paid based on potential to perhaps benefit from a long term good value cap hit (i.e Myers and Hodgson).

Do you mean in terms of FA's or just any player? If you've got a good deal in front of you for a guy like Eberle or Skinner I think you could stomach the extra year or two. |

Ennis has arbitration rights and his career ppg avg puts him at 51 points per year over an 82 game season.
Hodgson just signed his deal and with his ppg avg puts him at 47 points per year over an 82 game season. He makes 4.25 per.
Ennis will get more per year than Cody just did. IMO he will be looking for something in the 5 per range. Now you can either give it to him or hope he opts for arbitration, we select a 2 yr deal, and pray he gets awarded less than 5 per(IMO he'll likely get more). The last option is to trade him. |

3 goalies that haven't won the big one yet. One of the 3 being very young and just getting his career going though. |

They could end up doing either. I don't know if Murray is too keen on having both Hodgson and Ennis locked up for that long on that kind of money. They may end up overpaying to keep him on a shorter term to give themselves more flexibility. I just find it tough to believe that they'd commit 6 years to 2 guys who won't be #1 centres.

they can pay him 5 for a bunch of years, just as long as he doesnt get a no trade/no movement clause thrown in. i dont think cost certainty at 5 million a year would scare another team away. |

With the way the cap floor is moving up, $5M could be a steal for a team in a couple of years. |

Free Agency. I'm operating under the assumption that there are no marquee or even remotely marquee names coming here. |

Even big name free agents who have had multiple years of success in the league completely flop in FA.
Scott Gomez was pretty good until he went to NY, same with Brad Richards. |

The way FA is set up is designed for something like 7/10 free agents to fall short of expectations (and half of them pulling leino or gomez).
Most players who are worth anything in that pool are usually close to 30 which basically means if your lucky you'll get a decent year out of them and then it's all downhill from there.
The great teams in the league have usually done a good job of timing their FA frenzy so as to overpay for someone who is going to give them more than 1 good year. But these instances are so few and far between that you have to wonder if it's even worth our time.
The hook on FA has always been that you don't have to give up assets to bring them in just $ but every time a Clarkson gets signed I lean more towards overpaying in assets because it seems to bring in more value. |
