No, you're right. However, only he and his scouts know who they like. If they picked someone like Draisaitl at #2, I'd have to trust that they know what they're doing - Powerslave
Draisaitl at #2? With the possibility of Reinhart, Bennett or Ekblad available at #2 highly unlikely Draisaitl even makes it into the top 3. |

He could be this year's Barkov
I think we take one of the Sams though |

I'm sorry you lost me there.
If you want a stanley cup worth defense, Mike Weber has to be your AHL #4, not even remotely close to the top 6 on the big club.
And you're putting an incredible amount of faith in McCabe and Pysyk both becmoing #3 or 4 defensemen. - Sabresfan-365
Spot on.
Pysyk IMO is already a 3-4 defenseman. McCabe will be playing in Rochester next season. |

Yup I'm think it will be Reinhart. He adds the most offense on a team with absolutely 0 offense. This is how I see the players turning out...
Ekblad - Weber/Pronger
Reinhart - Toews
Bennett - Gilmour/Marchand type guy. |

"We suck let's rebuild" is the exact mantra Murray has been chanting since he came in here. We need a rebuild. We have already started the rebuild f you cannot see that then honestly man you are just blind. You honestly think a couple signings will help us into the playoffs? No it wouldn't. It will take a couple of franchise players to get this franchise back to being a championship caliber team. There aren't many teams willing to trade franchise players and not many big name free agents have Buffalo at the top of their list of preferred destinations. High drafting is the only way to get this franchise back on track. - Jammerz04
We all know they need to rebuild. There are many ways to rebuild a franchise. Some are brilliant. Some just simply don't work. That's what I mean when I say that it's not enough to simply say "they suck, let's rebuild". They still need a plan, and a good plan. Hopefully, Tim Murray has one. Again, I'm going to repeat: I hope Tim Murray has a good plan. This should not be confused with "Tim Murray doesn't have a good plan", or "Tim Murray doesn't have a plan at all", or "I have always stated that I'm the smartest guy on this board so there's no possible way that Tim Murray could have a good plan". All of these are variations of misreadings that have gone on in this thread today.

Its tough to say
I wouldnt be shocked if we took Ekblad if Florida passes on him
I know we don't "need" him but Murray has said repeatedly he'll take the best player available[/img] |

Murray is not blown away by Ekbald . Does not see him as a franchise defenseman . He will not draft a defenseman unless he is in my opinion . I know he was granted exceptional status at birth ! Still doe not make him a franchise defenseman. |

I really only brought it up because I like Johansen and would love to have him on this team.
I think Johansen + a big trade gets us out of the bottom 5 and it does give us our top 2 centres for the future. But like with most offer sheets, it would be a ridiculous contract, one that may hinder his performance. - Sabresfan-365
No point in giving that much up for Johansen when there's much better talent in the top 2 next year. Signing Johansen to a offersheet will most likely end up costing us our first rounder in next seasons draft. Just the possibility of getting out of the bottom 5 isn't enough reason to give up next years first rounder where we can draft the next great talent in the NHL in either McDavid or Eichel. |

Stop picking fights with ppl for no reason
Its so old and tiresome
And for the record...
IF Murray did want Ekblad, do u think he'd be out there saying he's the next Shea Weber?
Probably not

If there's one thing I've learned over the years, it's that you have to take anything and everything General Managers say with a grain of salt. It's like a poker game. Everybody is hell bent on not tipping their hand. |

He just likes to argue
Notice how I tried to discuss with him where Ehrhoff could get traded...
But instead of having a reasonable discussion he justvtried to pick a fight
He did it earlier today with another poster as well
Actually, he does this crap all the time
Don't waste your time |

Weber will bounce back, he's an NHL defenseman. We just can't pair him with Myers & play him against Crosby, Stamkos, etc
He should be shielded like most 3rd pair guys are
Expecting Ehrhoff-Myers to be the top pair & shut down other teams best is a reach at this point
And does Ehrhoff even wanna be here?
Trading our two defensive prospects with the highest ceilings seems like a bad idea at this point - jdfitz77
Weber sucks. He had one good year IMO and that was the lockout shortened season.
I don't think Ehrhoff wants to be here. In his interviews about the whole thing about accepting a trade or what not he seemed pretty distant. |

We have no idea how Murray honestly feels about any of these guys. When he speaks to the press about players he could be tossing out smokescreens like smart NFL teams do. |

I find this to really be true of NHL general managers, don't know much about the NFL but in the NBA and in european football they're usually pretty forthright about what they are doing.
Sure smoke screens happen as they should but not as frequently as you see it in hockey. |

I still think Reinhart is our pick if he's there
I just wouldn't be surprised if he'd goes with Ekbkad or Bennett
Draisaitl would be very surprising,
But i really like him so I wouldn't be upset

I do too. I hope Reinhart is there at #2, and I hope Murray takes him. However, as I was reminded, Murray (if this was indeed his call) has been known to go outside the box before (Zibenejad over Coutourier). So, Draisaitl wouldn't surprise me, though it would disappoint me. |

Right
Its not like he's gonna come out and say I've got so & so at #1, this guy at #2, etc etc
I did hear the comment he's referring to,
But like u mention...
None of us know the extent to how sincere he's being when he talks about these guys

I REALLY like Draisaitl, so I'd be fine with that pick
I would've liked to get him at 5 with that nyi pick...
But I'll just have to settle with getting Eichel from their 2015 pick! Hahaha

With the NFL, it's probably best to assume the person talking is lying to your face.
With the NBA, I'm not sure, and I don't watch a lick of soccer so I wouldn't have any idea. |
