2000 was the painful one. I was so sure we were going to lose game 7 that I gave my tickets away and took my wife out to dinner, May 26th 2000. |

Simmer and Hartnell never really handle the puck much. I don't think Jake handles it much either. Giroux probably had the puck at least 50% of the time. Maybe more. - PhillySportsGuy
In reading this discussion, I don't think anyone is wrong. There are positives and negatives to every move. Moving Voracek down to the 2nd unit would give that unit a player that is adept at carrying the puck and gaining the zone to allow the PP to set up, and would also add a playmaker to that unit. But as was also said, why do you want your best Winger getting less PP time? Catch 22.

For all the talk of giving bSchenn more offensive opportunities, which I'd agree with..
I really do hope they give Couturier some time away from the top lines of other teams. Since his time with the Flyers he has been put into a heavy shut-down role, always going up against the best.
If the Flyers cant handle line 1 and 2 going up against the offensive threats of other teams at all, then we have bigger issues. |

I think the general theme is that this team could use another skilled winger who can handle the puck. I'm hoping guys like Schenn and Couturier can get better and become even better possession players. A guy like Akeson could help in that regard as well.
Edit: I'm not necessarily talking about Corsi possession, I'm talking about a guy who can carry the puck through the zones. |

It also could benefit the first unit by changing the direction of the attack. Switching left side to right side could mess up the defense. |

The first unit is going to go through Giroux. Who is a RH shot, and plays on the left half wall. So that's not going to change.

I would consider him at the right price and length of deal. I just think he's going to get a lot of money. |

They could use a skilled LW to add to the lineup. I'm not going to expect too much from Akeson. Have to see a lot more from him over a larger sample of games to anoint him a "driver of possession".

And the second unit is going through Voracek who is a LH shot and plays on the right half wall...
1st unit left side
2nd unit right side
Switching up left side to right side. |

Yes, but I don't see how the first unit would benefit there. NHL teams see all kinds of setups throughout the season. I don't think they'll be confused by the difference between the two PP units.

Chase DeLeo - C - Portland Winterhawks - 2014 NHL Draft
De Leo is a quick, darting skater that plays a creative offensive game. He possesses very quick hands and strong puck skills that allow him to easily gain the offensive zone. He counts on his instincts and positioning in both zones to help him have a positive effect in the game. Size and limited strength are a concern

He's had an interesting career. Seems to struggle when he's not in Phoenix. Also, he's 32 now, getting up there in age. |

He also lives and dies through high-volume shooting... not sure he's the kind of guy that's going to augment that 2nd-line. |

Need more of a puck carrier and playmaker, then another shooter.

Yeah. Jokinen would be ideal. He can play with Giroux and a Jokinen-Giroux-Simmonds line, backed by a Hartnell-Schenn-Voracek line could be a matchup headache for other teams and then you still have the Read-Couturier pair with another winger (Akeson? Raffl? Laughton?)
